I love Cellular One! Customer Service is always right there, helpful, courteous, etc. I always have a great signal and the only time I have a dropped call, it's been on the other end - the person I'm talking to. Cell One has been just great.
Whenever I drive down C st I totally lose signal during conversations even with a 15db gain roof mounted antenna. I can enter that area with 5 bars and still lose the call. But it only happens for about 100 yds on C st. It starts about the beginning of the wall. I call it the "cellular twilight zone"
My calls drop all the time. Now my phone says "Off Network." I talked to Cingular and they said they are going to cancel my service because it isn't allowed now. They were great, but now that I live here, I will have to switch.
I'm amazed to see a huge, multiple peice platform (apparently for a cell tower sitting at the edge of the Holiday at the intersection) sit uselessly for months while I drop calls almost in sight of said tower daily. I can't help but wonder who's tower it is, because if its cellular ones tower, I'll jump ship as soon as possible because the coverage here really sucks, and seeing the parts all just sitting there for months tells me they are not truly concerned about their customers enough to implement a simple solution in a timely manner. But then again, there might be some sort of red tape involved, I really don't know, but would certainly like to.
I live practically downtown, but I can't connect to the internet with my EDGE WAN card. The test program says that I'm at 16% signal strength. (Apparently too weak to allow the connection to occur.) Even downtown in the Conoco-Phillips building, I only have 35% signal strength. Cellular One talks a good game, but at least for me, they're not delivering!
No matter where I am in Anchorage I have difficulty yalk ingto people in town, no matter if they are on a land line or a cell. It is worse on the southside of town and forget getting any reception at my house. My son gets told he is roaming when he is in his room. We up graded from digital to what ever they call the new service and it is no better. We had great reception when AT and T was here and it went to pot when cellular one took over.
Sprint sucks, You can't receive any calls, always on roam every where in town. Never once have I not been on roam. They said they just got new towers here but They are 50 miles away and they told me therefore I will always be in roan. Not worth it at all.
I recently moved up here and I have Verizon. Phone services doesn't work as well and none of my features work. I had to cancel everything but the plan itself. I'm thinking it's just Alaska in general. My friend has Cingular and she has some problems as well. Sometimes when I can't get through it says something about ACS. I don't know what code that is but I don't think I can win up here. I hear GSM and CDMA both are okay up here.
Every time I cross Tudor / Lake Otis, no matter what direction, my calls are dropped. Also, if you go under the Tudor overpass on the New Seward, reception is so poor that it sounds like the person is underwater. But, I have a great plan with Cellular One, so I'm hesitant to switch.
