T-Mobile digitally roams on ATT and GCI towers in Anchorage, depending on what part of town you're in. I get 3-5 bars anywhere in town. Data service on the phone is through either ATT or GCI, so you would expect same results as those customers around town. I also have an iPhone 3GS, that only get EDGE data service here (typical with unlocked iPhones with TMobile); voice service is crappy, but that's iPhones in general. Overall, no complaints at all. And T-Mobile is very helpful in getting you set up.

Just got my Droid Incredible in the mail. I love Verizon. They are roaming off ACS here, but service here is great! 3G is fast and no problems at all. Service is much better then it was last year. AT&T people have horrible service here.

i work for ACS for over a year now and I keep seeing Verizon Wireless has great service in alaska. thats because they roam off our towers. lol, and we roam off them in the lower 48s. we use a cdma network so it works well to roam off each other.

I have great reception with my cell one phone all over anchorage. As long as I don't want to call anyone from anywhere outside anchorage i'm fine! we originally had AT&T and when cell one purchased AT&T Wireless the quality went in the toliet but we had the best plan in the state.. $40 a month unlimited anytime 24 / 7 with at&t.. guess what happened when cell one took over-! the plan went to crap and eventually they told us that we had to upgrade our phone because it was an older analog model. I knew they were upgrading the network and the analog phones wouldn't work eventually. they refused to switch us to the same plan with a new phone. US Cell companies suck bad. Go overseas and see what the Eurpeans and Asians have done. Our freakin lame cell companies need to get outsourced! the goverment needs to grow some and mandate the cell carriers quit bickering and use the same network... none of this hodge podge garbage..

As one of the posts before I chose Verizon because there is no ACS listed. ACS has the best coverage in the state. I have never had any issues with dropped calls or bad reception. I also used their EVDO card at O'Malley and Old Seward and at Charter College. It works great. Been with them for almost 6 years now and won't go anywhere else.

To all you Cingular customers, hope you all enjoyed the fun while it lasted. I switched my service from Sprint to Cingular since I could not use the data service on the phone. I haven't had any problems with Cingular until my phone stated showing crazy numbers on the caller ID. when I finally spoke to customer service at Cingular I was informed of the bad news. although, now the phone states off network, I am still able to perform all the service on the phone. However I am switching to Verizon and going paper less and listing my address in the lower 48.

I love Cellular One! Customer Service is always right there, helpful, courteous, etc. I always have a great signal and the only time I have a dropped call, it's been on the other end - the person I'm talking to. Cell One has been just great.

Alaska is not highly populated, keep this in mind when traveling here. You get pretty good coverage along most of Alaska's highway system if you are near towns - - but none in the mountians or areas away from our few towns. Many dead spots in suburbs and rual areas. Extremely localized service around towns and villages in the bush (that is anywhere off the 2 main highways). Please look on your map and learn the roads. There are only 9 highways in Alaska and only 2 are major highways. This will prepare you to plan ahead and enjoy your visit to our beautiful state.

T-Mobile uses Cellular One towers here in Anchorage, so I'm assuming this posting is for Cell One as well. A year ago, I wasn't even able to get any reception at Service High School area (if I'm standing outside), but now, I can get full bars when I'm deep *inside* the building with several concrete walls. I've also heard that people has been having problems getting reception on certain parts of Fort Richardson, but I haven't experienced any problems at all. The only problem I have is sending picture messages and receiving any internet services on my phone. Other than that, it works perfectly.

T- Mobile uses Cellular One (Dobson Cellular Service), but the service is sometimes crapy. The calls don't go through and you have to try a bunch of times before the call goes through. If you have wireless internet on the phone it will not work. no matter were your at. To retrive your voice messages is a mission of it's own. First, because your roaming you can't just call your mailbox, you have to call your own number and get the messages that way. Sometimes the service is slow. But other than that is GOOD!
