I have PERFECT receptions but I am ROAMNG everywhere I go. I can't make a single call without paying roaming fees! Alltel is merging with Verizon and no one seems to know what the coverage is. This sucks!
I am getting great reception in the Fairbanks area. I even have a broadband card for my computer and am able to get on line in what is considered an Extended Network. I drove across Canada recently and was in the Extended network in lower BC then started Roaming in Upper BC. I lost all service in Upper BC and all the way through the Yukon. When I reached TOK I got on the Extended network and there were a few dead spots along the Richardson. But otherwise I am quite pleased with Verizon's performance.
Coverage is spotty all along CHSR from milepost 1 out to milepost 23. After that, no service. Some places are full 5 bars... some there is no service. Typically, at least 3 bars up to milepost 23.
PCS (Digital) service throughout Fairbanks and Fort Wainwright. Sometimes it was strong, but sometimes calls would drop in some areas. Also had service on Rich HWY to North Pole, but it was weak in some areas. Reception spotty in North Pole town, but no service the farther you traveled off Rich HWY. Some service on Badger Road, but that depends on where you are in proximity to Fort Wainwright or Rich HWY. NO TEXT SERVICE and no Customer Service ability on the phone, but you can check voicemail.
Reception here in AK is the WORST! Sprint does have towers in fairbanks but ONLY IN FAIRBANKS as soon as you leave town you are pushed to digital roaming and then analog. The "PCS" service is NOT available here. 8-10-05
Below average reception outdoors; no reception inside the (log) house. We're near the top of an east-facing hill. Our current cell phones won't take an antenna, so we plan to switch to another phone style and use an antenna indoors. Any carriers interested in putting a cell tower on my property?!
