I rarely have a problem with my phone. We have had Cingular for 5 years, 4 of which we have been living up here. We always have reception when other people don't, even Alaska cell companies. Free rowming so, no charges even though they don't technically have service here. I am dreading the day we have to change cell companies for one reason or another. I have ne problems with the Cingular cervice, even hiking in mountains, or our on the glaciers am I rarely ever out of bars. I average three or four all the time.
GSM works fine for me. I get no roaming charges because of it and my reception in generally excellent all over the valley and anywhere else where local cellphone companies can aquire reception... the only problem is how busy the nextworks are all the time..it drives me nuts.
Sprint has no towers in Alaska. You are going to be roaming and its tough to find a stable signal. Sometime I will have 5 bars, then a second later none. The service is pretty much slim and none in anchorage.
