I recently moved to palmer wasilla area and I have no trouble with my service(cingular). I have been here for 3 months and I have better service here then I did when I was in las vegas. I have only hit one spot on the parks highway where my phone loses signal and its less than a mile long. My parents have Cingular as well and they have been here for over a year and have no trouble.
Cingular reception was virtually perfect for the first month I lived here and then one night service cut off permanently. It was as if someone at Cingular hit a switch. I've heard that Cingular is attempting to weed out alaskan residents so Im a bit suspicious but the bottom line is that i'm stuck with o service and cut off from the states. What's worse, I spent 2hrs a day on the phone with customer service getting bounced all around. Ultimately, they suggested I drive on the parks and waive the phone around. when that failed, they tried to hold me to my contract. Bottom line: unpredictable and I think that they shut you off once they realize you're in alaska for more than a vacation.
I am just anxiously waiting for my contract to end. I was told they were getting new cell towers aroung the mat su area. I went from 0 to off and on in different areas of my home, but to me thats still a 0. Many dead spots. Very very poor reception. I'm going with a different carrier as soon as I can
Got these for my kids at the h.s. they can't receive or make calls at all near the h.s. Friends with ACS and MTA have no problem. Cell One or as we call Cell None. Can't wait till contract is up!
On my v555--which was purchased from cellular one--I typically have 3-5 (out of 5) bars. The RAZR--which I purchased elsewhere--I get 0-2 (out of 5) bars. Both phones are sharing the same plan yet at home, with the phones next to each other, the v555 has service and the RAZR does not. I called Cell One to ask what types of phones they supported so that I could purchase a new, unlocked, phone to correct the reception problem. The rep told me, "we cannot guarantee service on a phone we did not sell". This leaves me to agree with another poster who pointed out that reception problems are most likely due to the phone. When I asked if there was something that Cell One did to the phones they sell, were the phones altered in some manner to make them different then the one I bought, the rep just repeated her earlier declaration. I prefer to purchase an unlocked phone, then it truly belongs to me, I would be interested in hearing if those posting problems are using a phone purchased directly from Cell One or purchased from some other source.
