VZW has good coverage in this area. 3G speed is good, especially in town. There are a few dead spots on isolated stretches of highway, but service is usually good in the areas I frequent. Almost never have dropped calls or call quality issues. Price and customer service are different beasts though.

Sprint is terrible in Andalusia. Soon as my family got close to that town all of our phones went into roaming except for one which had no service. DO NOT GET SPRINT if you planning to live in or move to Andalusia, AL.

Cingular's switch to GSM is fine for some areas but a disaster for others. US Hwy. 29 is one of two high-speed routes from Andalusia, AL to Interstate 65, and the route is frequented by business travelers. TDMA and CDMA systems seem to do pretty well in the area, but GSM is pitifull. Cingular's decision to adopt GSM and to exclude other digital or analogue capabilities in the phones they sell is a major mistake. I have good reception and no major complaints in major towns and along interstates, but Cingular needs to spend a little money to piggy-back GSM onto existing rural towers operated by other providers.
