By looking at the cell tower map I see an AT&T tower less than a mile down Valleydale road where I live. Yet I only get one bar inside my house and 2 bars outside of it. It's basically unusable inside my house. I see the tower everyday when I drive to work. How can the service be so poor? There are no hills in the way and I don't have a metal roof.

I have a Virgin Mobile phone that uses the Sprint network. I have had multiple dropped calls, from 0 to 2 bars here, and only 3G. There are places in town where I can get 4G but I haven't tracked down where. It appears there are holes all over Englewood. Troubleshooting with VM has proven ineffective and possibly dishonest. According to customer service, everything is Ok here-except my phone. I have a Samsung Victory that worked fine in the city where I bought after Sprint did a major upgrade.

TERRIBLE TMOBILE SERVICE--was told that the upgrade to LTE adversely affects my area--no attempt to help. At least the rep was honest. Have called t mobile 5 times in last 3 weeks but service gets worse.

No problems ever with Verizon. I have 5 lines with 2 in auburn for college students. Only drawback is a higher monthly charge than other carriers.

I get 1-2 bars in my home with ATT using iPhone 5. Areas where I have extensively used my phone with good success are: Irondale 35210, Homewood 35209, and St. Vincent's 35205.

Mostly connects at 1x and rarely sees 3g. Completely loses connection when launching Google Maps and the phone becomes unusable.

Reception seems pretty good around town but is not so good in my house. We have not been able to get rid of our land line because we have bad reception at our home.

We have a metal roof so I assume that is some of the problem... but most times I am able to get at least 2 bars depending on where I am in the house. To actually talk on the phone I have to go outside or near a window. Surely would be nice to have the same sort of reception a land-line provided.

Verizon has major service issues in the Hoover / Vestavia / Homewood areas. I was an ATT customer for years and switching to Verizon has been a major mistake. Verizon does have better signal in buildings, but it doesn't make up for the fact that I lose service on Hwy. 31 in Vestavia...

We do not have Smart Phones, just plain old cell phones. Still, we were told they would work. Over the years, T-Mobile's reception has steadily declined. They kept adding new features, but nothing helped. Finally, we were promised a Booster, which would help our reception at home. After over a month, we called to ask why it had never arrived. We were told the local manager canceled our order, saying, "That won't help them, they're in a dead zone." Good grief. Living close to Red Mountain, you would think we would be near a tower, and get better reception, but with T-Mobile, the opposite is true.

Never in my six years of being with AT&T I've had a problem. All around town I have 4g 4-5 bars. Inside the house usually have 3-4 bars. Also when I travel to Selma weekendly I have 4g 3-4 bars consistently. Also my phone started actin up with service until AT&T gave me a new sim card but no problems at all with AT&T except when I'm in plantersville Alabama on the way to Selma but so far so good...

I hate AT&T and have for years. Great commercials but consistently drop calls, in the last year I no longer have a signal at my home on Red Mountain, tired of calling to complain and investing time into negotiating price breaks for non service and deplore the AT&T arrogant attitude. They screwed me on my Internet package and so I dropped that and landline and soooo look forward to changing cell to another carrier. Will NEVER EVER be another AT&T customer again.

I have had no reception for the last hour on either my personal Droid2 Global or my Blackberry Curve which is provided by work which I get calls / emails on constantly. I have had to use my AT&T wireless to receive emails and to tether to my work laptop. But I am unable to receive voicemails or listen to calls that could potentially be very important and lead to patients staying extra nights in hospitals. Come on Verizon! What's going on???

Calls drop here in one spot for me about 2 or 3 times a week. Maybe it's because that's where we cut through Red Mountain? Would be nice to have a boost of signal there. Annoying on a major road, but other than that I am very pleased with Verizon coverage and have been a customer for many years.

I live in the area and have seen coverage deteriorate over several years. Every time I begin using the phone, only 1 bar is available, often increasing to 2 or 3 as I make a call or access the Internet. It is now very rare to see 4 or 5 bars. I have had to ask callers to repeat themselves because of audio drop-outs. About 1 call in 7 is not placed on the first try. I conclude that AT&T has added local customers, but not capacity to serve them. (Or perhaps they don't want customers to feel they can do without their land lines, provided by AT&T.)

No reception inside the house, and barely any outside. If you look at the tower map and consider the elevation, it makes sense but still disappointing. We love our phones and saving a good bit of money over my old iPhone. Great service in other areas of the city.
