Fantastic coverage with Cingular throughout the Birmingham / Hoover metro area. Yet to experience a drop call since switching to Cingular's GSM network.

Horrible! Various Nextel phones left motionless will cycle from full signal to no signal with no warning. Very difficult to have a complete conversation with someone, as it is not predictable. Cloudy days seem to destroy most all rececption. I agree with other poster that reception / signal quality seems to have gone downhill over past several years. I (and my company) might change carriers if this does not change.

Poor phone much less effective than Motorola V60. Verizon admits to having problems in this area. Nextel and Cingular are much better. When is my contract over?!

I happened to come across this forum about a day or two before purchasing my phone. This was after 2 weeks of doing my homework on the internet, going to stores, and Co-worker testimonials.I can testify that Verizon has excellent phone service and reception.I started to go with Verizon.Glad I didnt ! Seeing this forum made all the difference, for if I hadn't viewed it I would have been stuck with two years of problems with Sprint.

T-Mobile Stinks! The reception is questionable at best. I NEVER have a full RF. It's not the Blackberry either... I have had several different phones. Not to mention they just stuck me with $800 worth of stolen phone charges!

Nextel's service has gotten worse over the last year. Their system is either overloaded or they dont have enough towers and / or power. Something isnt right with the network and its been going downhill for a while. Ive been a Nextel user for 4 years but I cant keep them anymore. Terrible signal, frequent drops and no coverage even in the middle of town. Inside buildings its even worse.

T Mobile has the worst service in this area. Outside the apartment I get at the most 3 bars and inside the apartment it is always between 1 and 0. I donot recommend t mobile if you live around 15th / 14th Ave S

I get good reception everywhere I go in Birmingham. The only time I don't get a decent signal or no signal at all is when i'm inside some of the buildings at UAB (mostly on the Hospital side).

Just got this Motorola V220 phone and did away with my Motorola V120t phone. Also, I switched from the TDMA network to the GSM network. I still get great reception. I drive all throughout the Jefferson, Shelby, and Chilton county areas and very rarely does my signal go below one bar. Everyone else I know who has Nextel or Verizon complains about getting cut off or having bad reception half the time. Cingular does have great coverage; but, like any other company making a sale, you ALWAYS have to read the fine print. Compare coverage area maps from Verizon, Nextel, Cingular, and T-Mobile and you will see that Cingular covers, by far, more area than the rest, especially on the Nation GAIT plans which cost more but are worth it.
