There is absolutely no reception here with ATT. I can stand in the middle of the street, with no high-rise buildings in sight, on a cloudless day, and consistently still get 0 reception. This is just behind Dreamland BBQ.

Can only use phone in certain spots inside the apartment. Frequent dropped calls. Only 2-3 bars outside, and, even then, only when I'm facing Red Mountain.

T Mobile has the worst service in this area. Outside the apartment I get at the most 3 bars and inside the apartment it is always between 1 and 0. I donot recommend t mobile if you live around 15th / 14th Ave S

I get good reception everywhere I go in Birmingham. The only time I don't get a decent signal or no signal at all is when i'm inside some of the buildings at UAB (mostly on the Hospital side).

I haven't tried other carriers, but I've had T-Mobile for about 10 years, since it was Powertel. I live in the Hollywood / Homewood area, service here was spotty up until about 2005... .Tmobile must have upgraded or added a tower nearby. Now in 2008 my service is pretty great, don't always have full bars but rarely drop a call. I give it a B+ or A-. Sure there are a few predictable dead spots around town (below Vulcan, top of Hwy. 31 at Shades Crest, Lakeshore near Samford, etc come to mind), but I suspect all carriers have and / or share dead spots. I occasionally get a random dropped call in the house or on the interstate, but not often enough to bug me, MAYBE once or twice a month at the most. And from what I've seen, T-Mobile is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than the other carriers. I don't have a home phone, so I need a lot of minutes. I only have free long distance in AL and Miss, but I get 3,000 anytime minutes for about $60 a month. That many minutes would be well over $100 with any other carrier PLUS have restrictions on WHEN I could use my minutes, etc. Too bad the iPhone is limited to AT&T... .bummer :(

EVDO high speed aircard performs perfectly along highway 150. Phone quality on the Sprint network is so clear compared to the Cingular technology I have used in the past. What I love about Sprint is the variety of handsets they have. Not to mention the have great customer service and awesome technicans who will go the extra mile to help out.
