I got this iphone in Jan. 2010. I love the phone and such, but without 3g service, these phones cannot be utilized properly. I went to Rome, GA and Bham where 3g is available, wow what a difference! I really do not understand why AT&T is ignoring this area??? I have to go to a wireless hotspot to use the phone. At the house I get "no service" I can stand out in the yard and get a bar or two. It got worse over the Summer... I had PMS and called AT&T once and they said there were no towers even planning in our area! Errrr... oh, but they never forget to remind me when my bill is ready! Hahaha!

Cingular has awful coverage here. About one bar - the reception is really terrible. After contacting customer service several times to complain that even though we are less than a quarter mile from a cell tower, we still have virtually zero reception throughout our home and yard... .we were informed that even though the cell tower we see IS in fact a Cingular / AT&T tower... they have NO plans of ever upgrading that tower. This is ridiculous since this area exploding with new construction. I also had the same reception issues at my last location on Southmoore Circle in Oxford, AL and this was a well established area. Cingular may have the widest coverage area, but not all of the coverage area receives a descent signal AND their customer service STINKS!

Nextel's service has become non-existent since their merger with Sprint, even traveling down I-20 from Oxford to Birmingham cell phone reception is hit or miss on the good days. We experience drop calls daily and receive "busy in data" messages too frequently. Especially since neither my husband or myself utilize text messaging or internet. Unless your business requires Nextel, seriously consider another carrier before choosing Nextel.
