Great T-Mobile coverage in Roanoke! Recently T-Mobile has entered into roaming agreements with Unicel. (Phone will either diplay Unicel, USA- 890 or a couple I can't think of at the moment.) Can now roam off Unicel with an 850mhz phone with Tmo in Roanoke, Wedowee and Woodland. Works great in Roanoke, full coverage even inside Walmart. Wedowee coverage was ok and haven't made it to Woodland yet but hear it is ok as well. Remember, only a phone with the 850mhz band will allow you to use Tmo while roaming in the areas mentioned. Also you will be charged roaming unless you have no roaming on your Tmo account. Tmo now beats the pants off Cingular in Roanoke!

I recently received a letter from Cingular stating that they were going to terminate my service due to excessive roaming from my home. I live and work from the house so this is a problem from them. Thanks to the info here I am not going to switch to t-mobile.

I can get a Verizon digital signal with one bar from within parts of my house or a weak signal from the Unicel tower (analog) from the same location. In town, I can usually get two or three bars analog from the Unicel towers. Cell phone reception in Randolph county is spotty at best, across all carriers -- there is no service of any kind near the large microwave tower in the Omaha community.

Verizon has very poor service in East Central Alabama. Service is hit or miss from the Auburn area north until you get to I-20 in Anniston / Oxford.

Reception is good when in the Cingular network, however when roaming in the extended network the phone will not allow you to place or receive calls (Roaming from Unicel tower).

Cingular terminated me due to excessive roaming. Verizon said would put good signal in area and order local numbers for area. If Verizon wants business in Randolph County AL they could catch lots of Cingular customers if they move fast or T-Mobile will get them with their new 850 mghz roaming agreements.
