Where I live, I will switch from 0 bars of 1x to Roam with full service of 1X. I found out Im roaming off Verizon. I will be taking my phone back and switching to Verizon Wireless.
I get 2 sometimes 3 while outside in my yard but inside I only get 1 bar if I'm lucky. Also I am inside the city limits and live up on a hill. There are several dead spots around my house like at dollar general, near mistywood and peach grove you dont get reception until you start up the hill at heatherwood gadens or going the other way reception comes back around golden acres and walmart on skyland service is REALLY bad inside the store. Really bad considering before I moved here I lived way out in the county about 2 miles down a dirt road and had the full 5 bars??
I usually have to go outside to make or receive a call. I can sometimes hear inside, but a complete conversation requires the better reception outside.
Cingular is quite good around the Tuscaloosa area. I work in a new building on the UA campus and it seems like only Cingular gives a signal inside the building. I've driven throughout Alabama and Mississippi and Cingular's GSM coverage is very good. In terms of coverage, it's improved greatly in the past year. However, in southern Alabama (especially north of Mobile), there are still areas where Cingular coverage is spotty. Also, Cingular has higher speed EDGE data transfer in Alabama, which is great if you use your cell phone to access the internet from your computer. I tried Sprint a couple of years ago and found its coverage in the Tuscaloosa area at that time to be very bad.
