Switched to AT&T 2 years ago for all the wrong reasons and have suffered every since. I would estimate drop calls to happen 50% of the time, 20% of the time calls go dead for about 20-30 seconds, another category is my phone doesn't ring 30% of the time and I just get a chime when I'm notified someone has left a voice mail. I've encountered bad spots with AT&T all over Ahwatukee especially main areas like Ray and 48th St. Trust me, stay away from AT&T, 2 soup cans and a piece of string will get you further. I'm going back to Verizon where I've never had a problem in the past once the IPhone 5 comes out very soon.

I've had ATT for 6 years, in the last 2 years reception has been very poor. I average 3-5 dropped calls a week. Very embarrassing when I am on the phone with a client. I've called ATT many times about the issue, I've had 2 dropped calls while on the phone with support! They said everything is fine, and that it was my device. This is the second Iphone I've purchased both new, and my wife also upgraded her Iphone and both have poor reception. I use their "Mark the spot" app every time I have dropped calls, slow network, no network, calls failed. And support said they don't have access to that information, so they can't see where my calls are being dropped at. This is after almost 40 minutes on the phone and 3 different support reps, having been dropped twice in the process. Sometimes the 3G will not work while making a call, I work and live in Phoenix Metro.

Cannot connect at my location which is roughly 500 feet from the corner of 51st Ave and West Camelback. There are 4 cel towers visable from this location. My signal strengh is usually -109 (no bars).. When I had Sprint I had 5 bars here. I wanted the iPhone which I have had since it's introduction. During this time I have had only 5 months of good signal ATT told me that my luck was caused by their renting towers AT&T new motto. "Less bars in anyplace!"

Intersection of Central and Fremont gets horrible reception. Typically, Poor to No Reception. Driving down Fremont into the neighborhood between 7th Ave and Central, signal jumps between No Reception and Below Average (most times you can see 1 or 2 bars, however outbound calls fail and text messages can't be set and "No Service" appears during the call / SMS attempt ). Typically the "Below Adverage" rating is only while the phone is idle, so it is possible to receive SMS or calls, however answering the call or keeping the call established is nearly impossible.

In our home we get very little or no reception. Tons of dropped calls if they do come through.Texting seems to be ok, (less signal required), but if you use your phone to talk, it's worthless in our home. The Motorola v557phone goes dead in 1 / 2 a day because it's says "Emergency Only" all the time in our house. ATT says we're right in the middle between two towers, but the coverage stinks. Had Alltel a few years ago and that was slightly better, but not much.

Made the mistake of switching to Cingular a few months ago for PTT and their reception is bad-to-terrible all over town - even after trying 3 different phones, one Samsung and two Sony Ericcsons. We have 2 family plans with 8 people and all agree that Cingular is terrible so now we're trying to find a way out of the 2yr contract. Customer service is not as good with Cingular either - they are okay once you get through, but be prepared for some looooong hold times. I love my w810i phone, but hate Cingular's reception!

It all comes down to this. My phone gets 3 bars at my house. My wifes phone gets 4-5 bars in the same location. It is the phone and the antenna that the phone has that makes reception good. I have travelled all over the U.S.A. with AT&T One Rate and had good and bad reception. I had a Nokia phone and it recieved when no other one would. The main thing to look for is the right "perks". For me I don't want to go over minutes, not worry about teenagers overtexting, and have a reasonable coverage area so I can talk to my daughter at college. I have just went and researched all the companies in my area and I think I will stick with Cingular for now because thier plans fit me.

Over all I have say that At&t / Cingular wireless service coverage is as good if not better than most or all the other cellular services in the Phoenix metro area, Yes There are some areas where I have little to no service. But No carrier has a complete 100% flawless blanket anywhere, with any of the current Technologies out there. I have had Sprint service With a Samsung flipfone because of work while at the same time having my AT&T wireless service. And dwould drop call just from tilting my head the wrong way and would have to use my personal phone to continue working. It seemed as thought if you looked at the Sprint phone the wrong way it would drop a call. I have noticed sence I have had to replace my phone several time due to the abuse that my phone endures each day, and have used Other phones from manufactures LG, Motorola, and currently have been using a NEC 525 while I am waiting to purchase a new Nokia directly from nokia. That with the other phones I do not get the same coverage in the same locations as that I did with the Nokia phones. If it were my guess if you look at the reviews of most of the people saying that they had Below Average, Poor, and No Reception, with At&t / Cingular / Tmobile GSM service a good majority of the complaints come from people who got the lowest priced if not Free give away phone at the time, and usually 7 out of 10 times they are Motorola phones. To add one last thing to back up my oppinion of the persons cell service directly being effected by the Phone its self, One of my previous roomates had Sprint service at the same time that I had Sprint service bacause of work He had a Nokia phone while I had the Samsung and he had significintly better coverage, to the point were we would both be on the a call at the same time and I would drop the call and have no reception whatso ever, and he would still be chatting away like nothing.

I was an AT&T Wireless customer for over 5 years and was very happy with my service. Ever since Cingular merged with AT&T my service has declined greatly. I have virtually no service in the Central Phoenix area. Dropping calls is a way of life. If you are talking to another Cingular customer it is even worse! And every time I call the customer service reps give me a different answer. Everything from it's my phone (which I have had exchaged twice) to, it's because I am not a REAL Cingular Customer and still have an AT&T Phone (supposedly you have to transfer to Cingular Service to get better service) It doesn't appear anyone really knows. Myself along with my friends and family who have Cingular intend to switch to another carrier as soon as our contracks are up. So of the places I have experienced no service: along 7th ave between Osborn and Missouri / Central and Van Buren / I 10 at the Broadway Curve / I 10 and 40th St. / I10 and the 51 / 202 and 143

Cingular sucks everywhere in Phoenix. I lose calls constantly, and their support is bad. Verizon gets 5 bars where I'm getting 1 in Cingular. Their support is annoying, but not as bad as ATT, however with a phone who the support reps have repeatedly said was terrible, they've refused to replace the bad phone. Screw them, I'm moving over to Verizon with the E815. A real speakerphone and a good phone. Good. To. Go.

I say it's Cingular, especially since I've had 4 MPX200 phones in 2 weeks and they all constantly shut on and off. Had the same phone for 20 months with no problems.
