Have had Sprint for approx. 11 years and overall, have had really good reception throughout Tucson and out of state as long I'm in a big city or intertate. I don't get any reception on Mt. Lemmon or farther outside of town on small roads. I have friends with Verizon who do get reception in Summerhaven and around the Mtn. Also dont get any reception on Snowbowl where T-Mobile and Verizon phones do. I have been pretty satisfied with Sprint even with this old phone and customer service has been fine to deal with over the phone. The Sprint store itself is very unhelpful but have had good luck with Sprint kiosks inside Park Place. If you have any problems with billing / phone, you are much better off calling into Sprint or trying an affiliate location. Sprint Corp store only wants to sell as they lose money spending time helping existing customers if a new customer walks out. I use to work for Sprint. Thinking about changing to Verizon as they have nice phones and seem to have a better coverage area but plan pricing is $60 more then what I have with Sprint family plan. Pretty hard to leave Sprint because I haven't had many major issues aside from a few coverage gaps. Clear as a whistle inside town though.

In the 3 years I lived in this location, I never managed to complete a call inside my house. I had to stand outside to talk on the phone - and even then I'd drop calls regularly. Awful, awful reception and it got worse when I "upgraded" to the iphone 3g from my dumb phone in 2009.

I haven't had any problems with dropped calls in over 2 years. Before that it was only one or two per year at the most. A Service Rep told me many years ago, when I got my first cell phone, to always use the area code when making calls (even locally), and make sure people use your area code when calling you. It has to do with the way long distance calls are routed, compared to local calls. Everyone I have told this to has gotten better service than they did without using the area code for all calls. I even had a person email me and say they couldn't get me on my cell phone. I told him to try it with the area code, and sure enough the call came through. Hope this helps! It has proven to work for me and the friends I have told about this. Of course, if you have a plan that charges you for long distance, then it is going to be expensive because each call is logged as long distance.

I visit family regularly in this area. For the past four years AT&T reception in the neighborhood has been nonexistent, and the family in town switched from AT&T to Verizon to get 3 bars of reception. I got a Verizon pay phone for the same reason. I visited again after Christmas 2010 and discovered a huge difference. Now I'm getting 3 to 5 bars consistently on AT&T -- 1 bar better than the Verizon coverage -- with the same phones. I suspect either AT&T lit up a new tower in the area or reoriented an existing one. I am now very happy with the AT&T service in this area. PS - I also compared AT&T and Verizon coverage along my trip, specifically from Las Vegas to Tucson. I discovered that the coverage areas and signal strengths are almost identical everywhere I checked, with the exception of south Tucson / Vail, and this has now apparently been addressed by AT&T.

located one block west of campbell, one block north of glenn. within apartment I get either SOS or the rare 1 bar. walking out into the middle of the street I get 1 bar at best. If I'm willing to drive to a "hotspot" it can improve all the way up to 5, sure. That's stupid. Totally defeats the point of having a mobile phone. My ancient Nokia never had these problems ever. Based on what I've read and how they've rated, it's the network not the users who is the problem, and I believe that constitutes a violation of the service contract. Time to see what my options are. Folks seem to like T-Mobile (in this area). Thank you for providing this resource to us. User feedback beats crappy corporate marketing any day of the week.

I switched have had Verizon ever since they merged with Alltel. I can't remember having any dropped calls any where in the city. Maybe I don't travel around much. I did drive to Washington state (using I-10) a couple of years ago and only lost the signal a couple of times. No signal at my daughters house in Washington, but they lived in a dead spot that didn't receive signals no matter what service you had. I think Verizon is better than anything I've heard of or used.

No phone reception 90% of the time in or out of the house. Sometimes 1 bar just long enough to make call or receive call, then drop it. Had flawless coverage in Colorado. Very disappointed. I can only make calls using my Vonage app. on my cable wireless at home. Strangely, I usually seem to have adequate data service, though slower than I am used to. Definitely in a black hole out here.

Ok, so I had Nextel for years and it seemed to work very well for me. Then Last Christmas we switched to T-Mobile so it could be cheaper on a family plan... BIG MISTAKE! Yes, I love the blackberry, but I always have dropped calls. In my home it is impossible to make a call, so I installed a router (more money) so my blackberry can make calls via WIFI (of course my boyfriend doesn't have a WIFI capable phone with T-Mobile so this didn't help him one bit!). Anyway, after all of that I have dropped 5 phone calls today alone and couldn't connect a call when I tried 3 times. This is so frustrating as I was trying to conduct business. It is very disappointing because in Colorado Springs this past summer T-Mobile was amazing, fast speeds when searching the net or doing GPS, virtually NO dropped calls. Now here in Tucson, I wait 5 minutes for my phone to get my GPS info and another 1 minute to do my search. It is just ridiculous! I am thinking of going to Verizon because I hear it is pretty good in Tucson, (rated #2 compared to T-Mobile rated #4) but when I look up Colorado Springs for next summer 2011 it shows Verizon is 4th and T-Mobile is 1st, so it seems I would have those same problems with Verizon that I am having now with T-mobile. I just don't know what to do... I just want a phone to work, when I need to make / receive a call.

I've had AT&T since 2007, and it has been poor service. I drop a call more days than not, and have difficulty hearing the other person, or vice-versa, which is just as bad or worse when they mistake what they thought they heard on a business call. I live by the U of A, and each time school starts up, service gets terrible for a month or two. If I can get a bar at all, my calls often get dropped. Recently, my phone dropped a call at least 5 times during the same conversation. I gave up and found a land line. Web browsing has been so slow, that I don't do it very often. I use to have Sprint (before my company went with AT&T), and lost only two calls in two years, while driving between two large foothills. Used the web browser all the time on that phone, and tethered to my laptop. I'm throwing in the towell on AT&T.

Since mid 2010 call reception has dropped dramatically. Very often, incoming calls are missed completely; people say they have called repeatedly and we do not answer; there is absolutely no indication of incoming calls. Outgoing 0 bars, or 1 bar at most 2 bars IF held in a few spots around the house. It has become a real pain.

More dropped calls with AT&T in the first week than with Sprint for the duration of my contract (2 years). Should have waited for verison to get the iphone. I won't be renewing my AT&T contract even with the 25% discount I receive from work.

Performance decreased over past two months. Heard it may be due to loss of towers in / near Tucson. Two bars at best in home. Flips to roaming without reason. Even when talking to technical support, they requested another number to use to talk because of poor reception, missed words, dropped calls. Hate Sprint customer service.

I've been with Verizon a long time and reception used to be decent. As of a few months ago now, reception got very poor such that neighbors began asking eachother if folks were having problems. Verizon claimed it was doing some tower work but the situation has gotten so bad we sometimes save making calls until we gt into town. Constant dropped calls, very bad reception and quality. My wife has a New phone and it is no better. Verizon did SOMETHING out here that has really screwed service up. They say they didn't but the change from one week to the next was completely noticable, by many poeple. I am now looking at alternatives.

At UMC, where coverage is important when waiting for patients to come our of surgery, there are zero ATT bars inside, and even outside in front of the main entrance, not enough signal strength to hold a call. This is in any area when many people on other networks are making calls.
