No service inside ever. No Sprint service outside and on rare occasions the phone might be able to roam. My brother has Verizon and he has OK service inside and no problems outside.

People say they can hear me clearly, but their voices in my ear are that wavery / under water sound. Never had a problem with dropped calls or completing calls - just the receiving quality is lousy.

Reception in this area is hit and miss. Better than two years ago, but still unacceptable. Is there a better carrier?

T-Mobile is okay, I usually get one to three bars (rarely 4+), calling on street is fine but not in the house.

"Looking for Service" is the usual. Finding random areas for reception, can pick up incoming calls only infrequently, losing them often when flipping open the phone. When connection made, break-ups in communication is the rule. Service provided by Sprint PCS. They need a repeater to enhance signal in this area. Plan to switch carriers when contract is up,

Outside house, generally one bar... on street improves to 2-3. Can make calls. Inside house - forget it. Even if I manage to find a 1 bar location, I must use my bluetooth headset as moving the phone any little bit (like putting it to your ear) is guaranteed to lose the signal! Also noticed in general area (SF Bay Area between Mountain View and San Francisco), GSM reception is horrible indoors anywhere. Switching to Cingular network is sometimes better but not noticeably better.
