Outside is usually excellent reception (4 or 5 bars), but may change to 2 or less during inclement weather or following a wind or rain storm. Sometimes this degradation in signal lasts for weeks until repairs or maintenance is performed on local tower / s. Indoor signal varies quite a bit - usually 3 or 4 bars in the best location, while others will have 2 or less - many times losing signal completely. During wind or rain storms, or following them until tower maintenance is performed, signal indoors may be less than 2 bars and often drop altogether.

Outside Sprint is great... full bars everywhere. Inside South Coast Plaza, Sprint loses a couple bars, but is still very usable with crystal clear reception (Sprint has a tower above one of the big department stores). Only when you're way in the back of certain lower-level smaller clothing stores (only 2 I've noticed), or deep into the narrow corridors leading to the bathrooms do you lose signal... but most of the time Sprint will roam on another carrier that gets 0-1 bars in the same area until you move towards the front of the store or back into the mall again. Honestly, it seems like no carrier gets good reception in those areas anyway...

I had t-Mob and paid to get out of my contract. Metro PCS is not much better. Outside, I have 3-4 bars. Inside, I got a magicjack. But I do live on the 2nd floor of a 3 story apartment so reception could be just poor between two floors. Calls drop on 241 and 133, near rancho santa margarita, in the pass going to Vegas, on the 405 near the Verizon Amp. Works great in my office, across street from SNA airport. Overall, for $33 / mo with unlimited talk and text, I can't complain. I was paying double that for 300 mins at t-mob and get the same off / on service. I go outside to make calls.

Reception is horrible in my home. I have to be upstairs near windows to get a signal. Sometime when I get outside it takes several minutes for a signal to link on. I have tried several things to troubleshoot but keeps leading back to poor signal vs. any othe cause. Others in the house have Verizon and have no signal issues. In addition to the reception issues at home, I get 1 bar if anything at my work in Huntington Beach area.

Sprint PCS ranges from 1-3 (out of possible 5) and will penetrate most buildings except for movie theaters. However, even if you have a solid 3, placing a call can instantly zap to zero (outgoing calls at max capacity at local tower?) so you have to try again. Once call established, does not drop very often. Coverage does go out while on the S-241 toll road (Bonita Canyon exit) but seems stable elsewhere.

Been with TMobile for 3 years. Reception was better at Harbor / Gisler. Very poor almost unusable now at Bristol / Paulerino. Could be due to close to airport? Tall buildings to the N too. Service has been worsening, assuming more customers with no network upgrades. Receive at home only close to window in 2nd story. Can receive email and sms however? Weird. Wife has Motorola V600 and says reception has been dropping too. Dead spots for her in Long Beach, 7th street next to CSULB and by 405 next to military base in Seal Beach. My friend has TMobile too, better reception still on his Samsung basic low end phone at Harbor / Gisler. Reception on my BlackBerry could be due to phone, heard the radio is not that strong. Had several issues with Blackberry (voice quality like a bad drive-thru speaker). Going to try the MDA (aka HTC Wizard), will repost. Summary, opinion is reception is going from poor to worse and not worth the value for the service. Considering a different provider. Hope the feedback was useful to u.
