Usually hovers around 5 bars when I'm in my apartment and occasionally drops to 4 bars. Relatively good signal with very few dropped calls. Great overall coverage.

Since the tower was put in on campus there are few places I can go where my phone will not work. Great coverage.

Outside, coverage is spotty and sometimes every other word drops. Inside, I can barely hear a conversation due to interference or dropped words.

Outside, we get ok service; inside our apartment, terrible. Can't even use our cell phones in our house.

Breakup, missed calls, lost calls (inside or outdoors). The same has been true on previous Verizon phones I've used at this location.

Walking around in my house, I get a ton of Voicemail because my phone never picks up the call and rings. Once I try to call them back, I have to find a place with reception or go outside. Occasionally i'll have dropped calls, and it's really frustrating to have that happen in 2005. Reception on campus is decent and downtown is very good.

Switched to Verizon in December after dealing with years of non-existent customer service from AT&T Wireless. Cingular was equally unavailable by telephone, but in the last minute after the merger GSM coverage did appear at our house in west Davis. Verizon's customer service is excellent, but their coverage isn't. 0-1 bars at home and in most of west Davis, as well as on most of UC Davis campus. Is it the choice of phone? Maybe. Bought three phones on the plan, mine is the worst, reception-wise. Supposedly phones with extendable antennas work better. Coverage is OK downtown when not in buildings. Friends say Cingular is now excellent all over Davis. I'd switch if not for cost of early contract termination.

We moved to Davis recently, having come from an area where the only viable carrier was Verizon. While coverage in downtown Davis is pretty good, my mobile is almost useless in Wildhorse where we live. And why is that mobile phones never work in the grocery store? The person shopping always has to leave the store to make the inevitable phone call, "Honey, do we need milk?"

Variable reception between 0 and 2 bars. Drop calls about once per week. Sometimes people say that they hear a lot of static.

Verizon is fair in most of Davis except west of Lake which is of course where I live. It also sucks inside any building in Davis. From the reviews it looks pretty hopeless to find a carrier that works in all of Davis.

I was the person who wrote on 12/07/04 about Sprint's reception being really bad in Davis. Well, I'm glad to inform y'all that since then, I've switched to Verizon and couldn't be any happier. Verizon is, by far, the best wireless carrier out there. Just check out Consumer Reports and you'll see. I have to be very honest with people who are going to read this, Verizon isn't perfect. It does have the occasional dropped calls (2 since I've had it - been 3 weeks now) but which wireless carrier doesn't have dropped calls. Verizon is the closest thing to being perfect and no other carriers compare. If you are thinking about switching to Verizon but don't want to pay the early termination fee to get out of your contract, I advise you to just do it because Verizon will leave you stress free!

I've gotten very good reception with Verizon near downtown Davis. Can make calls indoors with no problems. No dropped calls, good audio quality. Overall, definitely a winner, at least in central Davis as of late 2004.

Verizon is very hard to figure out. It works so well in the day time. I get full reception from 8am to maybe 5pm. When I make calls in my apt in the evening, my phone shows that I have full reception but that's surely not the case. My conversations in the evening are very spotty, choppy and I'd be lucky to finish a conversation with clear comprehension on what was said. I called Customer Service (oxymoron) and they told me that it was a capacity problem (not enough towers to support volume of calls). I'm frustrated because it comes down to the people who reside here in Davis. Not the students but the actual old people who live here. They don't want anything being built in or around this town. Why? I don't know. I have mixed emotions in regards to Verizon.
