It's not worth having a cell phone on base if it is Verizon. Nextel works well on base.

Cannot call out, receive or send text messages. Its seems you work from time to time at night. but only 2 bars and it drops the call ever other time.

I have tested Verizon (which I have), T-mobile, Nextel, and Cingular in the housing area on base. Cingular was consistently better. While I can make and receive calls with Verizon, it varies by the day. I can also make calls on only one side of the building! Usually I have zero or 1 bar. On some days I get 2. On some days I can't get any reception at all.

NEXTEL has a monopoly on wireless service on military installations. Reception is poor at best, until you get off the Air Force base property.
