It's not the phone it's AT&T. If there's a storm or a flood and no land line you better get out the string and the coffee cans.

No reception in Guerneville, anywhere, no reception anywhere near the area that I live in. (Summer Home Park) When it floods, if the land lines go out, we're out of contact. Scary. I've been told that Cingular works, but the comments here are not saying that. I'm shopping for a new provider. Verizon says I can get out of the contract if I can prove they don't have service. That's pretty easy to do.

I love my Nokia 3589i Tri-Mode phone. It's old and funky, but it never drops a single call. I tried an all digital LG 6000 for three months and just switched back to the nokia. Standing still I could go from 5 bars to no reception. The LG was horrible for this area. The Nokia never has dropped a call, even in the supposed dead zones. The backside of Forestville (on Trenton Road) I do loose signal for about 1 mile, but if the caller waits, it picks right back up. I've also kept all calls from downtown Santa Rosa, up hwy 12 to occidental to 116 to Forestville, no problem with the Nokia. Highly recommend tri-mode if you don't have it. As soon as the Nokia 6256i (tri-mode, too) is available, I'll try the upgrade.

Apparently the FCC is closing down the only cell tower in the Russian River area at the end of this year, 2005. This would end the Cingular reception in this area.

Northern SF Cingulars gsm service is basically the attws gsm service. Coverage is pretty solid alomg the russain rvr. of course youir going to get holes in coverage with such hilly terrain. If your away from the river in hill shadows you'll get some breaks. Gsm service extends west to monte riom along river road and is dead west to the PCH(hwy1).FGoing east on river road has bumps in coverage near Burkes canoe and then eastbound towards hwy101 till river road flatten out and then your solid for humdreds of miles.Hwy 101 N or Cloverdale Ca you'll switch over to Edge Wireless which coveers the rural northern market. Coverage with Edge is solid even in very rurak areas.they are a class wireless company.cingular should incorporate some of edge wireless policys into their operations. thanks, virgil
