Awful signal both inside and outside house. Need to stand outside on the corner of the street to get decent signal. Signal clears up and becomes strong if on mission.

Sprint needs to fix this. I get 2 bars one second in the same place, then 3, then 1, then zero. Then usually it stays at zero.

Had no problem for several years untill I got the new LG 4000 series phones in Dec 2004. Both my wife and I had no problems with our older phones and now with our newer phones, we are lucky to have a complete call without losing it. There are no reliable spots inside or outside my house. We have to drive about 2-3 blocks away to make a reliable call. Somedays when I leave my house I get incoming voicemail beeps from mesages that are a day old because of the poor reception. Switched out phones 4X and recently got a trimode LG4700. No improvement. My friend with an old Verizon Nokia has no problems at my house. I heard Niles and Rancho Arroyo are problem spots with any phone made within the last year or so.

Reception Good off the Freeway but Drops down to 1 bar when on Lake Erie Street. Verizon's response is that it is most likely a line of sight problem because of the terrain in the area. ("Can you hear me now?" No I can't!)

On my phone v60s I get 5 bars. On my wifes phone, she gets 4 bars with a broken antenna. Reception drops as I move into the house as can be expected. A few times, I've been able to hear the person calling but can't speak. Almost all calls get through without delay. Have not experience dropped calls at this location. My wife has had many dropped calls in San Jose. Sometimes I get voice mail from months ago for calls from out of state. Verizon at this location with this phone has been very good, but it is more expensive than T-mobile.

Very poor reception. Can't use phone for calls to business due to poor reception. Too many breaks in the conversation. Calls to friends are ok because they tolerate the drop outs. This is the third phone I've used over the years with similar results.

I work and live on Gallaudet Dr. right by California school for the Deaf, and California School for the blind. Reception is poor on both Cingular (gsm) and ATT (gsm). I have to go right by thwindow to get a descent (1-2 bar) reception. with Nextel I had no problem.

If I had to rank carriers: 1. Sprint, 2. Verizon, 3. T-Mobile 4. ATT / Cingular. Verizon is about as expensive as Sprint with good coverage and reception that is great in the Bay if you are calling someone in the Bay or vice versa. However for some reason when people call from out of state - to them it sounds as if you're talking inside a soda can with quality randomly getter better or worsening. Given the similarity in price with Sprint. It makes more sense to go with Sprint if you're paying for a Verizon plan. If you want to pay less and you're willing to get a plan that's not as good as Verizon but not as horrible as ATT / Cingular - T-Mobile is a good choice.

T-Mobile is pretty decent in the Bay Area. There are a few dead spots (BART tunnels, a part of San Jose) but overall coverage has good reception. If you're rich, you're probably better off with Sprint.
