Many places in La Jolla have terrible reception, but in the Ridgegate neighborhood - Soledad Mt. Rd.at Ridgegate Row - the AT&T reception ranges between awful and non-existent. For the most part, our iPhones cannot be used... even for text messages or checking voice mail.

AT&T is horrible in this area. Never buy iphone in San Diego especially in La Jolla area.

Spotty around the house. Some spots in home have full bars and some places have no signal. Average of 2-3 bars. Once a good spot is found, must not move from position, even by a couple inches.

Sometimes I get reception, but most of the time I don't. If my phone rings, I don't even answer it, I just look to see who's calling and call them back on my landline. Very lame. My wife has Verizon and she has even worse coverage than me.

using an unlocked phone i recommend taking cingular or t-mobile over at&t if you are looking for a gsm service. unless you have a phone with great reception you will find spotty coverage in la jolla. cingular performed much better.

The combination of this phone and AT&T service results in fantastic reception all over the UCSD campus (even works in the Price Center sometimes) and buildings, and around San Diego in general. I will definitely miss the quality of reception when I "upgrade" to GSM.
