Reception rating is deceptive. The signal is 'strong' but the service is terrible. Since last summer, I have been having problems with my Verizon service, and it keeps getting worse. My calls keep getting dropped (I am currently on hold with for Verizon Tech Support for the 3rd time this afternoon: 1st call got dropped; 2nd call went from Hold to busy signal). I do not receive certain calls (from people on my Family Plan, in particular); cannot reach them back when I see that I have missed calls because the phone hasn't rung (and they hear nothing, either); and voice messages arrive a day late. The tower my calls get routed through does not report dropped calls to Verizon if they drop after connecting. Verizon doesn't even pretend they're going to do anything about it.

I don't understand why coverage is so poor in the village area of La Jolla, as there are plenty of buildings on which to locate antenna sites. Are the techs aware of this problem? Too bad they won't just admit it and explain why certain areas have a problem and where they need a new site / tower. Then maybe they'd get some support in the siting process.

3 Bars. I can only get coverage in certain parts of the house and certain areas outside. Even then it is poor reception. However, Sprint was worse. You always loose the signal at the upper portion of Mt. Soledad on Via Capri through Nautilus. I was looking for information on T-Mobile in this area because I was thinking of switching.

My phone is completely useless inside the house. I don't even bother trying to take calls any more so I just see who's calling and call them back on my VOIP phone I tried to talk to Verizon about it and they told me "no carrier guarantees service inside the dwelling"

Cell coverage all over la jolla is not good, but Verizon is the best of the ones I've tried. If I'm not moving, it generally works. But if mobile, calls get dropped and reception is in and out if you are in the hills

Sometimes phone rings, sometimes not... if I try to answer call gets dropped unless I walk outside my condo... that sometimes works. Would think by now Verizon was able to improve service in this area... don't know who to switch to since everyone appears to have problems in this part of La Jolla and you always see people walking around the complex on their phones because no reception indoors...

Reception used to be good at home. Now, it breaks up walking around the house. Since I don't know of any changes in coverage, I have to assume it is my phone getting worse. I will look for another model that gets better reception.

Service sucks STILL all over Mt Soledad from Verizon, but their service stinks anyway (customer that is). Don't know where to turn... most cell cos. treat customers like dirt, knowing there's another sucker born every minute. Can't get service in the house but can on 5 sq.ft. of the driveway! Never more than 1 bar. Often drops THAT.

Service sucks on the south side of Mt. Soledad. Driving up Soledad Mtn. Rd, I lose calls starting at Middleton Rd. all the way up to about Palomino Circle. I can't even take calls at home, I just look to see who is calling - if it even rings - then I call them back on my land line. Super lame, my husband get's a little better coverage with Cingular (he was former AT&T)

Is it just me or has everyone started gettng a lot more dropped calls lately? I used to love Verizon and used to get excellent reception in my house. But now, often I'll just be standing there with 4 bars and the call will drop. I'm getting sick of it and I'm thinking about switching, but the none of the alternatives seem appealing either. Anyone have any experience with T-Mobile in this area? How about Nextel? I refused to go to Sprint or Cingular. Sprint has the WORST customer service I've ever had and Cingular / AT&T has the WORST reception.

Tried Cingular and Sprint, and could get no reception at all in our townhouse near UCSD, on any floor. Had to go out to the sidewalk to pick up an undependable signal (fluctuating 1-3 bars). Switched to Verizon and can get some reception upstairs (none downstairs), but still weak (1-2) bars and some dropped calls. No reception at all downstairs. Got a family plan with a phone for me, my son and for my stepmother, who lives in Santa Monica. She gets no reception at all on any phone inside her house (tried Sprint, AT&T, Cingular, T-Mobile, Verizon and Trakfone) - has to go out to the driveway to use her phone. Not very convenient!

Verizon has great reception all over San Diego. Only complaint is that they sell older style phones with less features than other providers.
