Don't be fooled by T-Mobile's coverage map. My G2 is little more than a paperweight around the airfield and not much better off base (2G usually at best). I have to drive away from work a mile or more to get any reliable connection, data or voice. They really need to work on their network. There are supposed to be some upgrades coming down the road due to the AT&T deal falling apart but who knows when.

Had maybe ok service (G or Edge with maybe 3-4 bars and poor call quality) when we lived in town on Barton Ave, but now that we live on base we're lucky if we get service at all some days (at best Edge outside of the house with maybe 2 bars, on a good day). Was told to live with service using our wifi or try to get a hot spot. There was nothing they could do about our contract even though we're military. Paying cancellation fees and looking for a different provider, tired of paying 200 dollars a month for less than 100 worth of service. Any suggestions?

I have had Cingular and then AT&T for years and never was able to get any signal at home. And when driving to Santa Barbara from Lompoc the calls drop once almost every mile. I finally canceled my contract. I wonder how the others compare to AT&T in my area.

Reception changes just by moving my hands. I found after the telescoping antenna broke off I got better reception. Is my nearest cell tower overloaded?

AT&T has very poor reception in this area. It seems the signal comes and goes with the changing winds. DO NOT GET AT&T if you live in this area, you will regret it and be stuck with a contract like I am!

Sometimes it's okay, but there are many times when I want to use my phone and the calls don't go through because of a weak signal. Will switch carrier.

We had decent service in Mission Hills until Thanksgiving Day of 2008, then suddenly the service became so poor we often could not even dial out and virtually every call we managed to make or receive dropped, on all three AT&T phones in our household. I sent Customer Service an email and they claim to have "sent an update to my device" -- we'll see if it changes. I did just successfully check my voicemail (all 10 messages that I couldn't connect to receive before) without the call dropping. FWIW the reception is excellent on the South Side of town, but once you get north of College it's bad.

AT7T coverage on Vandenberg AFB absolutely sucks. No Servie is the common theme while I'm on base.
