Ca someone please explain to me why da hell Verizon doesn't work in my aunts house in east La? She lives by da king taco on 3rd street. All of 3rd street is a freakin Verizon deadzone believe it or not u don't even get a 3g evdo signal even when u are standing outside and there's a cellphone tower across the street in a tree u can even see it cuz its like right there lol I'm guessing its not a Verizon tower? Because my phone only gets a 1x signal and its very low I only get 0-1 bars outside! And its constantly searching and atleast 75% percent of my calls are dropped its frustating! I live in west hollywood but everytime I come to visit my aunt or come to eat at king taco its freaking frustating cuz I can't make calls and I can't use the internet at all cuz it wont connect when it shows a 1x signal. I know for a fact its not my phone because at my house in west hollywood I always have full 4g reception. Is also embarrasing that my aunt has metro PCS and it works fine in her house her crappy metro PCS phone that doesn't even have a camera gets 3-5 bars in her house and I have to borrow her phone to make calls lol its embarrasing. Most likely I'm not gunna go visit her anymore cuz she always makes fun of me.. cuz my Verizon phone doesn't work in her neighborhood and metro PCS does.. -_-

I've lived here for 6 months and I get absolutely NO reception in my home / office. I also cannot get my messages because if you don't have reception, you don't get the voice mail either, at least not with Verizon Wireless. I have called them several times and get NO Satisfaction. I am waiting for my contract to run out and then switching. I am paying way too much for service that I receive only when I'm not at home and a minimum of 2 miles from my house, in Los Angeles CA. I hesitate to upgrade to the iphone because I will not be able to to use it anyway. I would love to hear from someone in my area who has reception.

It seems almost everyone in the area uses AT&T because of the iPhone. iPhone's are great, but the Droid is very similar.

I can even make and receive calls down in the garage where I couldn't before with the Treo. To the user with the 700p in Bel Air, switch your phone. It's not Verizon, it's the phone. My apt (on one of the higher levels of the building) gets decent reception (at least 4 bars with a fully charged battery). In addition, my Verizon phone has worked all over Westwood. I'm going to go with AT&T soon due to the selection of phones, rollover minutes, and international calling, but am worried that reception may not be as good as Verizon's. If not, I'll be switching back to Verizon despite the benefits of AT&T

My Verizon palm treo shows 3 bars, rarely drops a call, sms and email no problem. Not switching until ATT improves their network. As badly as I want an iPhone being able to reliably make and receive calls here is more important than great product design. Is network coverage one reason why Apple wanted to first partner with Verizon to sell the iphone?

My call service at home is abysmal. It's definitely the location because I switched from Cingular which was even worse. I have also tried several different phone models with varying success. The best combo has actually been my Black Berry on T-Mobile that I use for work. On my Treo the call quality is bad during rush hour and somewhat better late at night and on the weekend. It stinks because my only phone is my cell. Lots of dropped calls from this location. Otherwise both phone and service have been good in LA. I usually have bars when others don't. I guess this is just one of those lucky spots with bad service.

Verizon Wireless as usual sucks. Horrible Reception. Dropped calls all day. Have several phones on the account so it's not just one phone and they can't keep a signal if they tried. Works sometimes in one room of the house and no service in the next. They of course claim everything is fine. Verizon also can't keep a bill straight if they tried. They overbill, refuse to fix things and suck money endlessly. Their "Worry Free Guarantee" also is a bunch of bul&** too. Customer Service is also a joke with rude reps. Verizon also doesn't offer ONE SINGLE feature that other companies offer. Who cares about "IN" Calling when it's only to their network? No reasonable nights and weekends, no free incoming, no favorite 5 or 10 friends. Zero, Zip. Nextel and Sprint giving you free incoming or free incoming and outgoing to EVERYBODY and ALL phone numbers if you choose the right plan. Go with the Sprint or Nextel Unlimited calling plans for the same price that Verizon charges for a low amount of minutes. Can't go wrong. Great service with Sprint / Nextel. Even Cingular is better then Verizon. It's worth paying the termination fees to stop dealing with a company that's not even competitive.

Spread the good news: The Motorola KRZR K1m on the Verizon network actually works well in the Hollywood Hills / Beachwood Canyon! My LG 6100 rarely works in this area, but a friend's old Motorola does, so I decided to give this brand a try. Verizon tech told me the different materials used in the antennas by various manufacturers effect phone performance. Whatever the reason, this Motorola phone with Verizon works great. Able to make and receive calls every time. And although signal strength is often only one or two bars, reception is always clear and strong on both ends.

ALL carriers are awful in this neighborhood because its close to the airport. The reason they tell you on the plane to switch off your phone isn't because it messes up the navigation system, but because the cellphone carriers ask them too because it messes up the local towers to suddenly be tracking 100 phones searching for a connection at 150mph. Verizon is better than most in this neighborhood but still poor. Get some poor call quality and occasional dropped calls. But previously had AT&T (now Cingular) which was dreadful - could barely use the phone. If anyone has something which works in 90045 PLEASE put a note on here. Thanks.

Been in this area for years and never had a problem. You might want to stay away from phones that try to do too much. Find one that has good reception. My wife's LG has much spottier Verizon reception than my V710. I even still get analog service out in the desert, when most phones have dropped analog signal. I bought a Treo from Cingular and took it back after a week. I don't know how much was Cingular, and how much was Treo, but I had the phone a week and never completed a call.

But Verizon is pricy. I am trying Sprint for 5 days and the reception at Verizon is better. I am trying to decied between spending lots of money on the best reception with Verizon Or getting free nights at Sprint starting at 6pm. Verizon also has better customer service. I had to wait 10 minutes for someone at Sprint. And to cancel service at Sprint you have to call first.

El Sereno MS gets no reception with Verizon. For all of us who work here, it doesn't matter what phone we have. Of course Cingular has 4 bars. I'd like to see where that "Can You Hear Me Now" Guy is!

Pretty much every time I am on Highland starting from about Willoughby going south to about 3rd street I have no reception or if I am on a call, the call is dropped. I also have very poor, if any reception on my block, the 800 block of Cherokee (North of Melrose, east of Highland). I find this very ironic considering that up until a couple of weeks ago there was a huge Verizon billboard at Melrose and Highland touting the "great" coverage. I can't wait to switch at the end of the year to a better network.

In my house I get one to two bars but it means nothing, I cant even keep up a conversation for 5 minutes without having my calls dropped. So now whenever I need to make a call I have to walk outside of my house to find a decent spot for reception but its to no avail... in a few minutes I lose my call.

I get the worst reception I have ever had for a cell phone in certain spots in my house. When I open the phone I see five bars... until I make a call, then it drops to one bar and of course that means zip, zero, zilch nada, no reception. Reception in the downtown LA area is great.

Verizon is almost more expensive than all the other carriers combined... but everyone in my family has it so all those minutes are free and the reception in Silver Lake seems better than any other carrier. I was told when moving here to steer away from Sprint and Cingular. My housemate has T-Mobile and has to go outside to talk or stand on a chair.

Phone displays 5 bars - but my calls drop CONSISTENTLY. Sometimes I won't get a call but my voicemail will ring. I got a replacement phone, same problem. My girlfriend's Cingular phone has the problem about 1 / 3 of the time mine does in the same location. Looking for a new carrier - Verizon was fantastic when I was living in NYC, Philadelphia and Ithaca, NY. In LA, it's amazing if I can drive 2 blocks without dropping a call.

Though service is marginal at best, it seems to be the winner here. It looked to have a better signal than Sprint and shares it's consistency. In other words, standing in one place the signal doesn't fluctuate, unlike my tests with Cingular. The network has tested to be very strong throughout the LA area and in the rest of the nation. My NYC friends swear by Verizon and my cross country travels have been well covered. Verizon plans are not competitive. Their prices are generally higher than the competition. Technologically speaking they are the slowest to adopt new handsets. If you can find a phone that suits your needs from Verizon's offerings, I'd say they are your best bet.

Deep inside South Campus buildings, reception is weak and usually non-existent. But the article leading up to this survey explains that adequately (power). In Sproul hall, reception is very good, even working in elevators. In some other residential halls (particularly DeNeve Plaza), reception is spotty in certain corners, but reliability is still around 98%. Verizon is the best choice around all of UCLA when the competition is considered.

I'm lucky if my phone rings ever. Forget trying to place a call from here to Fairfax / Sunset, or east towards Gardener. Total dead area, and it is an busy and well travelled area. Verizon works everywhere else when my friends phones don't. Just not at home or in the neighborhood. Sprint PCS was worse, barely worked anywhere. Sprint even didn't work on Ventura Blvd. in front of their billboard that claims "now with expanded coverage in LA". And Sprint has the worst customer service I have ever dealt with, ever. Verizon is the best, and I've had them all. I just wish it would work at home so I could cancel my land line.

Verizon has the best reception in the UCLA area by far, and it's actually the only company that seems to get reception within my apartment building (my friends with other services get literally NO reception). I switched from Sprint a year ago, and it was more than worth the extra cost. You will still get dropped calls occasionally, but generally service is very reliable. If your reception starts cutting out frequently, consider taking your phone into the Verizon store for a software update. Also, if it's within its 1-year warranty period, they'll replace anything (batteries, bent antennaes, etc.) for free. To keep reception up, update your Preferred Roaming List once a month by dialing *228 and choosing option 2.

Just switched to Verizon from AT&T GSM. Wow. What a difference, especially where I work in the west SF Valley. Used to get no reception in many buildings and spotty reception in Silver Lake with AT&T. With Verizon, clear signal throughout LA. The only dead spot I found was in Stevenson Ranch in Santa Clarita (i.e. the boonies).
