I have lived in this area for the last three years and cannot use my cell phone! It appears from the above comments that I am not alone. This is a densly populated area of Los Angeles and we should be able to get cellphone reception!

Insane. I just moved to this sublet and I get ZERO reception. Occasionally the phone rings when I get a call and if I try to pick up, the call immediately drops. I tried contacting Sprint about it, they said they'd check into the reception and I've not heard a word. It's going to cost me $300 to get out of my contract; it may be worth it. My cell phone is just a paperweight now and no one can get hold of me. Great. BTW, I came from Los Feliz (on Rowena) and service there wasn't much better.

Anyone else have this problem that started up last week? The # of reception bars on my phone is always good, but now during every call, the conversation blips out about every 10 seconds. Like someone's tapping a mute button. I can't complain of a dropped call because the call never disconnects, but I have to ask the person I'm talking with to repeat himself every few seconds, which is critically poor for business calls. Same thing happened a year ago, and Cingular had no solution, then problem went away on its own weeks later. Hope this clears up soon.

Generally mediocre reception, especially indoors. A lot of dropped calls in my apartment- I'd say on average every 5-10 minutes.

Recently added tower at Lincoln / Jefferson intersection. Full bars in home and even in parking garages! I think the tower is sub-leased to Cingular, T-Mobile, and soon Sprint / Nextel (according to FCC mailer to nearby residents).

Been in this area for years and never had a problem. You might want to stay away from phones that try to do too much. Find one that has good reception. My wife's LG has much spottier Verizon reception than my V710. I even still get analog service out in the desert, when most phones have dropped analog signal. I bought a Treo from Cingular and took it back after a week. I don't know how much was Cingular, and how much was Treo, but I had the phone a week and never completed a call.

Besides the dropped calls ALL over Sunset, I have been getting my messages hours and even DAYS late. This costs me jobs / money, and I am going to leave as soon as I find a better plan. Cingular SUX

I travel between Wilshire and Crenshaw and Olympic and Barrington all the time and reception is generally good the whole way on Olympic, or Pico, or Wilshire. I have had occasional dropped calls, but I can't place them specifically at a certain place all the time.

Cingular cell service is retarded. There are many times when I'm talking on my cell, then all of a sudden the line get crossed with someone else hearing their private conversation. Aside from that ever since ATnT and Cingular joined, I've been getting alot of my calls drop, or were only one side could not hear the other. If my company wasn't paying for my cell I would have already cancel my plan! (Wonder if my line ever got crossed with someone here?)

Motor Ave. / Fr Pico To National Blvds., Los Angeles, CA 90064 Mon Sep 04, 2006

I live in Cheviot Hills and the stretch along Motor Ave. between Pico and National Blvds. is a notoriously terrible area for cell phone reception. I have tried different phones (Motorolas, BlackBerry 7290, BlackBerry 7130, etc.) and three different carriers (T-Mobile, Verizon, Cingular) and Cingular had about the best reception, but still crummy. Verizon was almost a complete bust.

Cingular has been consistently inconsistent regarding reception. Some spots NEVER fail to drop me. Cingular has the most complaints by its users and the people called. My friends hate my service too. Can't wait to switch... so long Cingular!

Beachwood Dr. / Cheremoya Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90068 Sat Aug 19, 2006

I live about a half mile up Beachwood Drive, just below the village and I have almost never gotten reception with Verizon. It works just well enough for me to see who's calling, but I can count on one hand the times I've been able to have a complete conversation on my cell phone. I used to have Nextel and AT&T, but neither of them worked well either. May try Sprint as I've heard they have new towers up in the area. There is a huge mountain with the word HOLLYWOOD on it and lots of TV towers. Why can't they put up a cell tower in this very dense LA neighborhood???? The really stupid thing is that all of these cell phone companies spend millions of advertising dollars trying to get me to buy their other features such as internet, video downloads, music downloads, text messaging, etc., etc. Why would I waste my money on all that crap when they can't even supply me with what I want from them in the first place: GOOD, CLEAR, RELIABLE CELL PHONE SERVICE!

Mercury / Reynolds, Los Angeles, CA 90031 Fri Aug 04, 2006

Update to the Oct 12, 2005 posting: Service has been pretty good since that month of roaming, dropouts, or no reception. My phone gets 4 bars most of the time, but does look for service on rare occasions. Sanyo phones do indeed have the best reception. Two friends on a Sprint plan with new Samsungs have been by, and their phones don't get as strong a signal. My next phone upgrade will remain a Sanyo. A neighbor was frustrated with the Sprint reception problems around here and switched to Cingular, but her service is very spotty. Glad I stuck it out with Sprint. Knock on wood.
