Everyone's phone has reception problems up here in Elysian Heights. I have good and bad reception days. Sometimes if I have my phone on my right side, I will get calls - but 2 feet to the left: forget about it. My main gripe with Nextel is their phone selection - which may be why I'll switch to Verizon soon.

I get 0 to 1 bars in my apartment. 0 in Beverly Hills and my phone won't even function in Venice Beach. My phone won't even work! I tried to drop a pin on the map and it said, "can not access cellular data network" WTF?? I paid a sh*t ton for an awesome phone with sh*tty service. AT&T can lick it.

i had to get the new 3g data plan as I lost my old I phone in new york and upgraded to the new 1 phone 4. I found myself paying up to $30-$40 more a month.. up to $120. the 3g network is awful! here. dropped calls all over los angeles. hollywood. I am in a 2 year contract and feel stuck. i did everything to try and improve the reception. new sim card. they basically said at at&t. get off the 3g network and use the old edge network. which actually works. but WHY am I paying more for no service. customer service said my problem were solved because it worked on edge. wait, I am paying for a faster 3 g data plan that I can barely use. literally highway robbery, however I probably would have a dropout on the highway! i had less phone dropouts with the original iphone that was almost 3 years old. I love the technology of the I phone and the camera. waiting to see if there is an improvement with verizon. wish I could jailbreak for T-Mobile but I see that the service is not that great. so considering breaking contract to get a regular Verizon or Sprint phone here. oh, I also work in new york. and I see it's having problems there. they have no problem taking our money. amazing. T-Mobile had bad service in new york too. oh well. trying to get out of at&t. it's a total sham.

I've complained several dozen times to AT&T about my lack of service at my home. To date they have absolutely no explanation or solution to the problem to offer me, other than they are overloaded with iphones in the area. Sometimes I have all the bars so I know it's possible to get a signal, but then a second later we're back to nothing. I can rarely use it for a telephone, I even dowloaded the skype app to make calls. Shame. I love the iphone and I was happy with AT&T which I've had since 1999. My contract is over. Adios AT&T. We had a good run for a long time.

I have had various phones with Verizon over the years and can sometimes get a call but it will eventually drop. I can send and receive texts. My husband has an AT&T iPhone and cannot get any calls. I am looking to put a cell booster in the house and hope it improves reception. Has anyone else tried this? It seems almost everyone in the area uses AT&T because of the iPhone. iPhone's are great, but the Droid is very similar.

I've been with AT&T / Cingular since 2002. I am now leaving. I can't take it anymore. Poor reception throughout the city and poor customer service. I never get a straight answer when I call to complain about reception, just a run around and that it must be a problem with my phone. Other friends are pleased with Verizon. I think I'm going to switch to them.

I was with Sprint well over 8 years. I changed my number and decided to try AT&T. BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE. I have NO SERVICE WHATSOEVER in my apartment in West Hollywood (coincidentally on Crescent Heights and Melrose there's an AT&T office). I get at least 2-3 dropped calls a day, mind you this is my 3rd Blackberry in a year as 2 others had defects and were covered by warrantee. My husband and I have gotten into so many huge blowout arguments because he thought I was avoiding his call by not answering, when I didn't even have a missed call on my phone. Today I've had NO SERVICE since I walked into my apartment. It's been 4 hours. I'm livid! To not have service in my apartment, on campus at school downtown, or on major streets such as La Brea, La Cienega, Melrose.. there's really no excuse. How do they get away with this???

I work at LAX the reception is so bad that a string and 2 tin cans is a better way to communicate out there. Oddly at every other major airport in the USA I can get great phone calls and actually use the data plan I pay through the nose for. Hell I can even get reception in a tunnel under water in New York... but yet the best signal I can get at LAX is gprs fluctuating to edge... forget 3g! I have traveled alot and ATT can brag all they want as long as Los Angeles is not included in that reference. Its like they upgraded every other place in the US but Los Angeles.

It took me 4 years to (reluctantly leave Verizon) get the iPhone and 4 MINUTES to decide it's going back! Despite AT&T's solid orange (full strength) coverage area map for West Hollywood, their technical support department CONFIRMED that there is a 1.5 square mile area in WeHo (between Fairfax / LaBrea and Sunset / Melrose) - in which my apt is in the center - where there is NO COVERAGE. Per the AT&T representative, my ONLY solution to get coverage is to PURCHASE a microcell at the cost of $150 + tax. I will then need to replace my existing Mac Airport with a Mac Extreme - at an additional cost of $180 + tax in order to use the microcell (as it requires a designated ethernet port). I have been a loyal Verizon user for 7+ years with NO DROPPED CALLS, PERFECT RECEPTION and STELLAR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I'm clearly being thrust into the circle of hell for my disloyalty. It's day 4 without coverage and i'm still unable to release my grip on the iPhone. What is wrong with me?

I have very spotty coverage in my apartment. At certain points I have no service, and others I have up to 3 bars. My phone also like switching between Edge and 3G so I get a bunch of dropped calls.

Once I am at home there are zero bars in my phone. I can't receive or make calls from home using mt AT&T Mobile. Talked to customer care and was told that there are no complaints from other customers in my area :). Also customer care told me that they are putting a new tower in my area in a week time and this may resolve the issue but even after month service is same.

I live on Detour Dr.in the Hollywood Hills and I NEVER have 3G service at all. I barely get the EDGE network; maybe a bar and a 1 / 2 if i'm lucky. My roommate has T-Mobile and he has no reception either. His friend was visiting and had Sprint and he had the best coverage of all of us. Not sure about Verizon.

Reception is good outside and in the car; However once you enter a building even near windows bye bye reception. This is a major business area and many residential apartments are around, I wonder why can't the signal be better!

Sprint service in the residential neighborhood around this intersection this area has been abysmal for the last few months--two bars maximum dropping to ZERO bars and dropped calls. Service used to be fine but reconfiguration of the cell antennas must be the culprit making Sprint almost useless in this area.
