And all this time, I thought it was the phone! These reviews are so validating! Even when my RAZR 9 was brand new, cutting edge, the reception in my house sucked. The only way I can make a call lying on my bed is to contort my body half over the side. It's either that or go outside. My major beef is not so much the dropped calls, but the constant cutting in and out, so my friends get sick of having to repeat everything they say, and only one understand half my msgs. It will be interesting to see what happens - we Westsiders demand good coverage, but no one wants cell towers in their chichi city!

I have Boost Mobile and it's HORRIBLE. I live in Mar Vista and can barely ever get good consistent reception. It keeps cutting out at random areas of the house. I'm thinking of switching over to Metro PCS. Does anyone know how that reception is in the Mar Vista, Marina Del Rey, Venice areas of California (LA area)?

Boost Mobile reception in Mar Vista is HORRIBLE. I have to walk in certain parts of my house to get a reception and even then it still disconnects alot. I'm thinking of switching over from Boost to Metro PCS because they are offering that special for only $30 a month for unlimited calls / texts. Does anyone have feedback about Metro PCS in the Mar Vista / Marina Del Rey area? If I switch over it's got to be better than this reception with Boost, otherwise, I'll just stay with Boost.

AT&T sucks sooooo baaad! I have an Iphone 3GS and constantly get dropped calls not only in my home area but everywhere in Los Angeles. Apple please, please go to Verizon or even T-mobile. I love my Iphone but I'm afraid with such shoddy service from AT&T I am forced to get another phone from another carrier. Booo AT&T! Curse you!

I use to have Sprint, which was good, but my company got a new contract with ATT and I switched. I have horrible reception in my appt, and I have calls drop all of the time. I would say my old Sprint reception was 100% better than ATT. If I was not on a corporate plan I would switch immediately!

Spotty reception with 1 - 2 bars if you're lucky! With my phone placed in the one spot it can usually hold a signal and with my headset on so I don't move the phone I can use my phone in the house. Move and the call fails. Surprise! Oh and you have to put up with signal quality coming and going because apparently AT&T's cell strength is as good as their DSL speed guarantee... (HA - Liars.) There's NO service from Fairfax to Labrea on Hollywood. NO service around the intersection of Fairfax and Sunset. My contract is up and I'm praying that in the new year Apple will announce they're opening up the phone to other carriers. The MINUTE they do, I'm GONE from AT&T. They suck, they misrepresent everything they are able to provide and get us to pay them for shoddy service all the time. It's not just the cell service! They deserve to go out of business.

well I just had the blackberry bold 9700 the newest blackberry. T-Mobile also has this same blackberry but I decided to get the AT&T version. and I have barely had it for 2 days. and I live in pico rivera california but sometimes travel to east LA n montebello n pico rivera california. ok before I had a g1 with T-Mobile and in all those places I mentioned above T-Mobile never ever dropped a call and their 3G network was extremely fast in those places.. and I always had 2-5 bars of service. I rarely had no service. so my wife decided to switch to AT&T she got an iphone 3Gs n I got the blackberry bold 9700 which I love its an amazing phone. but in those 2 days I had never been so pissed off. I always have crappy signal with AT&T even when I am right outside my blackberry has 1 bar of 3G. n when I try to call I get ''call failed'' automatically. it dont even ring once.. my wife also has the same problems with her iphone. and sometimes its very rare when I have 5 bars of 3G. n when I do I try to call and all da bars go down to zero n again call failed..... then when I press end call I get 5 bars again so I put redial and again call failed.. and when the call finally decides to go tru it only stays connected for a few minutes, the most I have been able to talk is 3 minutes.. then it dropped when I was talking with,my sista and she got mad cause she thought I clicked on her. which I didnt! n it gets worse when I go inside a building like walmart I get no service were T-Mobile had at least 2 bars of service n worked fine.. o also their 3G network is all messed up it never connects even with 5 bars of 3G. n when it finally decides to connect its sooo slow. T-Mobile was waaaaay faster.. so yea ima be canceling this crappy AT&T service

95% of the time I have a good signal ever since I moved here in Santa Monica except for a few times when satellite signal is not at best.I do recommend though for people who are experiencing drop calls to go to a ATT store and have your simcard replaced with a new one for free.ATT produces new simcards that are updated with their new towers and chances are you got a very old simcard.

I cannot use my phone in my apartment without the call dropping EVERY time. If I go outside, I can manage to complete a call, but reception is horrible and I'm constantly having to ask people to repeat themselves. This RIDICULOUS! I really want to upgrade to an iPhone, and the only thing stopping me is this seriously sub-par service. When will AT&T and Apple get a clue? I would think that Los Angeles would be considered an important client base.

Woo Hoo! Ported my number over from AT&T to Verizon Wireless and Best Buy gave me my Motorola Droid EARLY! I LOVE THIS PHONE! And know what's better? I can KEEP a call with out it dropping! Also, my data speeds are FAST! I am so happy to be gone from AT&T. I would really look into Verizon and the Motorola Droid or the Droid Eris by HTC. Sprint wasn't even this good when I had them before my iPhone 3G. THANK YOU VERIZON! You have a GREAT network!

I used to have T-Mobile when I was at USC. loved it never knew what dropped calls meant. Then came Iphone and I switched to AT&T. My job requires me to get on conference calls. Till date I have not been able to make it through a single call with out getting my call dropped. I now moved to Park Labrea apartments near the Grove. Reception is absolutely pathetic. I love the IPHONE but and will be switching to Verizon next week when Droid get released. I have traveled all over USA NY,Florida, Arizona, Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Colorado and ATT DROPS CALLS NO MATTER WHERE I GO... My contract got over this month and I am dumping my iphone(will use it as an ipod). I FEEL FREE ATLAST.. I can finally have a phone service that works.

i live in the hollywood hills in a house with one small spot where I can get reception. only reason I have AT&T is due to owning an iphone; but will switch the minute another carrier is added. may even switch phones if I learn that AT&T will maintain exclusivity. I can often drive a miles from labrea and franklin all the way to sunset and fairfax without getting reception. yet I can be in the mountains of california, an area without a dense population, and have perfect reception. AT&T is horrible and APPLE should do right by their loyal customers and eliminate the exclusivity and bring on Verizon or another carrier. if AT&T cant figure out how to bring good coverage to a heavily populated city like los angeles, they dont deserve apples exclusivity on such a popular phone like the iphone. if they lose the exclusivity, watch AT&T stock tumble and fall; just the wake up call they need!

My husband and I used to have perfect reception in our home, in the garage... all over the place, and all of the sudden a few months ago, we can only make calls in the home if we stand next to a specific window. Huge disappointment. After soooo many years with AT&T we are both considering switching to another carrier. I'm not sure why with all of this feedback, they are doing nothing about this! Maybe if enough people abandon ship, they'll finally figure it out.

Usually varies from 1-2 bars, fluctuating between EDGE and 3G coverage. Occasionally I will jump to 5 bars with 3G but that will last only a minute or two. Often times I will lose service all together and get a "No Service" message

I had more dropped calls with AT&T in the first 3 months I was with them than the entire year and a half I was with T-Mobile! The WORST service ever... the only reason most people have them is for the I-Phone. I have ONE spot in my entire apartment that I can make a call! HORRIBLE... and the pricing is outrageous compared to the other companies. I wish I had done my research before switching! A lesson learned.

AT&T was the ABSOLUTE worse service in West Hollywood. It too got no reception in my house, and I couldn't even drive down Sunset (west-bound) and have a conversation on the phone without multiple disconnections. The service was sooooo bad that I recently switched back to Sprint and picked up a Palm Pre. Being a Mac freak myself, I was really expecting a downgrade as far as phones go. You know what, the Pre is awesome. There are some things I miss about the iPhone, but there are an equal number of things I like more about the Pre. Ohhhh... reception. I have it now; in my house, on the road, no problems! Not only is the coverage WAY better, but my monthly cost is less. AT&T was awesome in other places I've been to (New Jersey, Las Vegas, SF Valley, San Diego), but as far as my hood goes, it SUX!

Very spotty cell reception since leaving Verizon in favor of "Jesus Phone". 3G network is hardly up to the task of handling nationwide iPhone / internet usage.
