I always find myself to have to go outside my home to see whether I am able to get better reception (which is not cool when it's very early, very late, or cold outside). Ocassionally this helps... to some extent. It is very frustrating -- not to mention upsetting -- having to ask people if they can repeat what they just said. However, I have no problems making or receiving calls when I'm in Long Beach, Downey, Cerritos, Lakewood, and a few other southeastern communities.

Drop calls have increased withing the last year and a half. I thought service was to get better. Many dead zones around 5 mile radius of home and within home. Not a happy camper!

I'm in Hollywood / Hancock park / Mid Wilshire area and now using T-Mobile. I had serious problems with Sprint three years ago in this area, so I switched to Verizon for the last two years. Reception with them was excellent, but my bills were HUGE! I have switched to T-Mobile and am blown away at how good reception is in this area - jus as good as Verizon. The 4g web connection is very, very fast and serves my new Android phone very well - I now do more browsing / emailing on my phone than my PC since voice recognition on the new Androids (2.2) means I no longer need to use the on-screen keyboard. This phone blows away the iPhone. Call quality is excellent - no dropped calls.

I'm in the Larchmont Village area. Years ago I had Verizon. Worked great then started dropping all calls. Switched to Cingular and never had a problem. Now Cingular is ATT and have only one spot in my house I can keep a call from dropping and that's if I can get reception to call out. Since I would like to get rid of my land line, Don't know who I should move to.

I am about to take the plunge and get AT&T and the iPhone. Before I do so, I must pay my respects to Verizon which never let me down coverage-wise. I will use my first two weeks to evaluate and I will be back if AT&T does not deliver (and I'll repost).

Usually I praise VZW for having the best phone service but every since I moved here I'm lucky if I get 1 bar.

Well, I think Verizon is the only company that you get 1 or sometimes 2 bars when you're in the subway! Wow... so amazing. Such strong signals they have.

AT&T sucks sooooo baaad! I have an Iphone 3GS and constantly get dropped calls not only in my home area but everywhere in Los Angeles. Apple please, please go to Verizon or even T-mobile. I love my Iphone but I'm afraid with such shoddy service from AT&T I am forced to get another phone from another carrier. Booo AT&T! Curse you!

I made the biggest mistake--switched from Nextel to Sprint. With all other carriers in the LA / Mid-Wilshire area I couldn't even get reception in my own home. Nextel was the only company that had clear reception, excellent call quality and few dropped calls. Switched to Sprint ONLY because I liked the features of their phones and I assumed they were on Nextel's network. WRONG move. No one can ever hear me and I can barely hear my callers. Will switch back to Nextel or try Cingular.

I had AT&T contract for several years (Started with L.A. Cellular). I live in Koreatown. With AT&T, reception was non-existent. Using my phone in my home was impossible. I assumed it was the buildings construction that blocked the signal. It was actually AT&T's lack of coverage in the LA Civic Center. I switched to T-Mobile a year and a half ago. Reception with T-Mobile has been pretty excellent. They must have a lot of towers in the Wilshire area.

5 bars in Apt. with no reception - deception. Dropped calls are de rigueur. Student at USC shows 5 bars and again reception is spotty. Today I switch to another provider. I' m frustrated with Sprint service.

I've been here 2 years. All of a sudden my reception got progressively worse. Customer service is HORRIBLE. They said it was my phone but I beat the system since I tried my old sim card in 2 different phones, and just activated a new sim card in both phones. Still NO reception. I have full bars but everytime I make a call it's Network Busy. Anyway, a customer rep told me once that a "tower was down in TX." I told her I was in LA. She only said that because she saw my area code was from Houston. I'm very very disappointed in Cingular / the "new" AT&T.
