The room I was renting had parts of some walls made of concrete. The reception would fade in and out if I moved around. It wasn't easy to find a perfect spot to stay in to have a long, frustration-free conversation.

Used Cingular when I first arrived and the reception was not very good in any dorm or classroom. I asked around and the GSM services (Cingular, T-Mobile) don't seem to work as well on campus. I changed to Sprint and I get at least 2 bars in most sections of the campus. Verizon also works well.

Great reception in the surrounding area, but only decent on campus. On par with Cingular. To talk from inside buildings, will usually have to stick head out window. Verizon and others allow calls from anywhere on campus.

At Occidental College (Eagle Rock): Dorms: 0-2 bars (of 6). Stewie & Haines OK reception. Chilcott: Must be by window for 1 bar. Classrooms: Almost all classrooms - No service. Other providers work better on-campus.

I've had Sprint for many years, mostly because I have a low priced plan that they don't offer anymore. But I have had it. The reception is pretty bad in this area and I could barely make calls at home, if I could get any bars at all, it's choppy, and then it always drops the call. The most awful thing was when I needed to call 911 and COULD NOT GET THROUGH.
