With extender calls are possible but when extender resets ( often) call dropped immediately. W / O extender receiving calls unlikely at best. Making calls possible from one end of attic.

Weak signal sometimes goes out completely. When it does work you can't beat the low cost data plan. 25 dollars a month.

Reception ranges from 0-3 bars. It seems to be weather dependent... the signal varies quite a bit from day to day and hour to hour in exactly the same place. Anybody have experience with Virgin Mobile in Los Osos? Thinking about a smart phone and they have the best rates. Thanks.

Have to go outside and down the street to get good reception! Verizon does not care about the small market customer.

Verizon has had generally good / very-good coverage for 'talk' and good for data in Los Osos area (actually all over western San Luis Obispo Co. I also use a T-Mobile work phone and get good voice coverage in the same Los Osos area.

I used to have Verizon and their coverage was horrible and even worse was there customer service. I switched to ATT a few months ago and have been so pleased with both the customer service in store and over the phone. Like night and Day! I found out that when I went to a major city my AT&T phone worked 10 times better and faster than Verizon did. There is only one tower in Los Osos for AT&T and Verizon so if we want improved coverage we have to allow the town to put another tower here. Our community does not like change and I do not forsee that in the future, however I am soooo pleased that I switched!

Terrible reception in Baywood, drops all calls within 15 minutes, even if I stay in one spot. My spouse has an older LG phone which will normally hold a call for closer to 30 mins. It is very frustrating and inconvenient because we do not have a land line. Up the hill away from the water I get great reception, but it is terrible around my house.

My phone has a 6 bar scale. Outside I get 5 or 6 bars. Inside I get 2 to 5 depending where I am, with 3 or 4 being average. The deeper inside the house, the fewer bars I get. My house has very thick plaster (not drywall) walls. I do not know if this is the cause for the extreme drop or not. The reception is usually adequate. Occasionally, I am unable to make a call on the first try, but that does not happen often, maybe once or twice a month. Also, I recently purchased a signal booster that improves the reception by one to two bars. I now get 5 or 6 bars inside the house when I am in the same room as the booster. In other rooms, the signal is better than before, but lower than the room with the booster. There is an antenna upgrade that may provide increased range. At $300, the system was expensive, but it works and I do not have to plug the phone into a cord, like with the external antennas. I put the antenna on the siding along the roof and ran coaxial cable from it to a base station inside the house. The company is called Wireless Extenders if you want to get one. Make sure you get the right model for the phone you have. You may want to get the model that covers all frequencies if you have Cingular / AT&T or if you might switch carriers.

Verizon coverage in Los Osos spotty; in Baywood park varies wildly with about 50% of calls dropped.
