I live in the Malibu Bay Club near Neptune's Net and have Verizon Droid X. I have no major problems. Pretty decent. Not great, but consistently good.

I get little recpetion, calls are often dropped or cannot be placed, internet browsing rarely works, cannot send emails unless I position the phone in specific part of the house. Call quality is absolutely terrible, at best, people say it sounds like I'm speaking from inside a tin can, at worst they can barely hear what I'm saying. This is not an issue with the phone as I've had Verizon send me a number of replacements. I even bought their network extender, which did not help and was a waste of money.

if I stand down at the road I get a signal. as soon as I step foot up the canyon my calls are dropped or I get no signal.

Reception is "fair" at best at PCH and Coastline. As you go up Coastline into the Mesa, it'll drop the call (or not be able to place one) about 1 / 8th of a mile up. Reception on the mesa is terrible. You need to be outside with a line of sight of Santa Monica area to make a call -- and even then it takes 5-6 tries to get a call out.

If I carefuly position myself in my house the reception can reach 5 bars, but even then it isn't stable and calls are lost. Most the time, the reception is 2 bars and horrible reception with doubletalk can be heard. The phone doesn't ring 70% of the time. Verzion is great in the Conejo Valley, but not so good on PCH or in the canyons of Malibu.

I switched from AT&T to Verizon, since I heard reception was the best. Unfortunately, it is really bad in Malibu, where I spend most of my time...
