At my condo near Canyon Lodge in Mammoth, I consistently get 5 bars on 3G from Verizon. From what I can tell, there is no 4G yet in Mammoth. Does anyone know when it is coming?

AT&T service in mammoth lakes is very bad. Number of bars and coverage is fine, but on weekends and holidays you can not place a call, send a text, or use data (based on 8 years and over 40-50 days / year). This weekend just as bad. Can not receive calls or text either (messages can take a day or 2 to get to your phone). So even if you have 5 bars, you won't be able to use your phone. Called AT&T customer service. Clueless! Over past 5 years, most people I know have switched to Verizon due to this problem.

I was about to change to Verizon, but ATT must have put up towers in Mammoth. The reception up here is perfect. I've only had one dropped call and I think it was on the other end. ATT has really made an effort to give Mammoth coverage in town and throughout the residential areas and the ski area. 3 months ago I would have given ATT a very poor rating, but I just signed on for another 2 years...

Reception, both voice and 3g data is excellent in Mammoth (even works down by the Devil's Postpile) as well as in most of the small towns along the 395 corridor. I had an iPhone with AT&T and it was awful. At best (when no one was in town) it would barely work in only 1 / 4 of the places my Verizon Droid works. I'm convinced that Verizon has the best network not only here in Mammoth, but everywhere I travel too.

AT&T in the Mammoth Lakes area is terrible. On weekends I will have full service and I still get the "call failed" message. Even with full 3G. At my house I have "no service" and in my driveway and backyard have very minimal service. If you come to Mammoth during a holiday or weekend you might as well turn off your phone. Over xmas break I had no service for a week. Even during busy times during the summer the whole AT&T network seems to "lock up" and do not work at all. This needs to be fixed!

Came here once and got full bars 3G, but that was during the week. This past weekend (Thurs / Fri / Sat / Sun) was lucky to get about 20 mins of Internet via Edge. The rest of the time, all I got was "o" which gave me no Internet. Oh yeah, and the time was always two hours ahead. WTF AT&T? Pretty convinced to switch to Verizon, as I get practically no voice reception north of Mammoth to Sonora Pass, and none south of Mammoth until Bishop. Internet is unusable until Ridgecrest (about 3 hrs away from Mammoth).

AT&T coverage in Mammoth, Tom's Place and Crowley is HORRIBLE! At the very least they should have good coverage in Mammoth but I might as well have turned my phone off as it was useless for the week I was up there. Occasionally I would get a signal but as soon as I saw it, it was gone. It's 2010... come on AT&T, get on the ball and build your network out! I was thinking about maybe moving back up there but if I do, I'll be switching to probably Sprint. Actually I'll probably be switching anyways since even in the flatlands AT&T coverage is not that great.

Abslutely terrible. AT&T should be ashamed. People who live in this town are switching to Verizon en masse. If you live or travel to Mammoth Lakes often DO NOT USE AT&T!

Very good service. Plugged into my computer and fast internet also. Phone works most everywhere in Mammoth. (not roaming on Verizon) This is actually very nice Sprint service for being away from the city. Also my iphone ATT service is AWFUL! No bars, no service. C'Mon ATT. Spend a few bucks on your system up here. You've certainly made enough money on the iphone service!

AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. Dangerous. Poor reception in the best of times. no email. Don't count on being able to use it. My iphone is now a simple address book for use with my new Verizon phone. ATT and Apple better wake up quickly.

AT&T service in Mammoth Lakes is absolutely horrific and getting worse. Of course, with my iPhone, I'm partly to blame as the problem is certainly a bandwidth issue and not a reception issue. I usually have several bars, but still can't make or receive calls. Ability to make and complete calls is o.k. when the town is empty, but nearly impossible on weekends and absolutely impossible during holiday periods. And forget about Internet service on the phone when the town is crowded - there just isn't enough bandwidth to support that. The problem, the issue seems to be getting worse on Thursday's and Friday's, not just Saturday's and Sunday's. THEY NEED TO ADD BANDWIDTH TO THE NETWORK UP HERE OR I'M SWITCHING TO VERIZON, which works much better up here. PLEASE HELP AT&T, your customers need some help here.

Works just good enough. But when you really need service for that important call, you can almost always bet on it not getting good reception! and some times the time just changes to 2 hours ahead of the actual time making the alarm clock useless.

The reception at the mammoth library is fantastic. Verizon also gets reception at coldwater campground by lake Mary. In general I get all my bars throughout mammoth and surrounding areas. I have heard that when tourist come up to the mammoth area AT&T phones don't work well up there because the tower overloads and can't handle all the calls. Verizon has americas most reliable and fastest 3G network. In general Verizon and AT&T work very well in mammoth and bishop.

I arrived in Mammoth a year ago with AT&T and quickly switched to Verizon - AT&T's service here is awful, I was told by an AT&T rep that they only have one tower. The upshot is that when weekenders arrive the tower can't handle all the traffic and all calls go straight to voicemail. I have had two very bad experiences with Ed Shinto, the agent at the local Verizon store - so be warned.
