At my condo near Canyon Lodge in Mammoth, I consistently get 5 bars on 3G from Verizon. From what I can tell, there is no 4G yet in Mammoth. Does anyone know when it is coming?

Reception, both voice and 3g data is excellent in Mammoth (even works down by the Devil's Postpile) as well as in most of the small towns along the 395 corridor. I had an iPhone with AT&T and it was awful. At best (when no one was in town) it would barely work in only 1 / 4 of the places my Verizon Droid works. I'm convinced that Verizon has the best network not only here in Mammoth, but everywhere I travel too.

The reception at the mammoth library is fantastic. Verizon also gets reception at coldwater campground by lake Mary. In general I get all my bars throughout mammoth and surrounding areas. I have heard that when tourist come up to the mammoth area AT&T phones don't work well up there because the tower overloads and can't handle all the calls. Verizon has americas most reliable and fastest 3G network. In general Verizon and AT&T work very well in mammoth and bishop.

I arrived in Mammoth a year ago with AT&T and quickly switched to Verizon - AT&T's service here is awful, I was told by an AT&T rep that they only have one tower. The upshot is that when weekenders arrive the tower can't handle all the traffic and all calls go straight to voicemail. I have had two very bad experiences with Ed Shinto, the agent at the local Verizon store - so be warned.

Almost zero incoming call reception - 99% of calls go to voice-mail with "call missed" notice.
