If one needs a cell phone around the foothills, they should go with Golden State Cellular, I actually get bare reception at home, but nothing in town.

NO recption In or out of our home (2000 ft level), nor anywhere near Mt Ranch, if I drive down Mtn Ranch rd to San Andreas I "may" very briefly catch 1-2 bars about 5 miles outside San Andreas. NO bars in San Andreas, once I get almost into Jackson I "may" get 1 / 2-3 bars, In Valley Springs with my first 2 yr contract the only place you could actually make a call was at the Chevron Station outside town, Now that Radion Shack installed a "Repeater Antenna" inside their store you can make calls from the parking lot. Angles Camp is another NO reception area. Like another person said, my cell ph is used for a paper weight or camera. The only reason we continued with a 2nd 2 yr contract was that my husband's job was in the Bay Area and needed a cell in case of an emergency and always hoped any emergency didn't happen has he crossed the halfway point to Mtn Ranch. I'm on my 2nd 2 year contract with Cigular, the 1st 2 yrs we had a Motorola, when that 2 yr contract was up and it was decision time again, Cingular told me the new Nokia was better as was the sim card and I'd have better luck, BUT "NOT". IF I walk all about outdoors on our 24 acre's I "sometimes" happen upon 1 / 2-2 bars, but they go away as fast as they appear. We still VERY much NEED a cell ph, my husband is a heart patient and there are times when our landline is down (lines on the ground, still are after last years BIG snow) and no power. I've asked many others what Cell Service they have and DOES it work, but seems there are none. NOTE TO CELL NETWORKS: We have 24 acre's at + / - 2000 ft level with clear views, if any are interested in a tower lease site, "CALL US". It would sure make a lot of happy customers not to mention "New customers".
