We just moved into the neighborhood from Tennessee. We've updated our address and PRLs on our phones to coincide with the area. Still, reception is horrible at best. Constant cut-outs and eventual dropped signal every time I try to make or receive a call, and that is only when we stand right next to the window of our house. This is extremely inconvenient. When I walk around the surrounding neighborhood, I constantly overhear people on their phones complaining about service in this neighborhood, which is just down the hill from Downtown Oakland one mile from a Sprint store...

When I leave the phone alone, I got 2 - 3 bars. Signal is intermitten, but then when I browse the net I got 1 bar and the speed take forever. Signal is fake. I was thinking about adding another line for my wife and upgrade to the Evo 3D but this won't happen at all. Luckily I discover this issue. For those want to go for Sprint shound take a look at this before deciding.

Miserable part of the city. Not only do we get zero to one bar at our house, which is right near here, nobody visiting gets any better service, no matter what provider they have. So much for ditching our land line.

I generally have good coverage from Sprint, so I wasn't expecting such a lack of coverage in downtown Oakland. Many calls couldn't be completed or were dropped. Sprint's map shows this as a high-quality reception area. Judging from other comments I've read here, this is a long-standing problem. It's disgraceful that Sprint hasn't fixed this. And the City of Oakland should be complaining about being relegated to third-class service when it's trying to redevelop it's downtown.

I would expect more from Sprint in a Major U.S. ctiy like Oakland. Service is so low and poor north of lake merritt. We live but maybe a mile from Oakland's skyscrapers... ..It's just awful, Sprint will probably no longer be our carrier if they don't take care of this by the time our contract is over in January 2009.

Inside or outside the house does not matter: reception is bad (often no reception at all), conversations break off, line gets dropped. Also there is a dead zone coming up on Redwood just before Skyline, all calls are dropped no matter what. Going down the hill on Redwood, starting at the Safeway at I-13 reception is fine, 4 bars at least.

My 3rd floor apt is on the opposite of the building from the direction of the signal broadcast. One moment I can have 4 bars, the next the tower seems to fade entirely out - all without moving. I redial my dropped call and sometimes it takes up to 10 minutes before I have sufficient signal strength. According to Sprint's coverage maps this is supposed to be an area of "moderate" singal strength... Looking forward to switching carriers once my contract is up to have better reception.

Sprint has been very poor on upper Ocean View Dr.(nr Broadway) for the last 5 years. It has been very good almost everywhere else. I switched to Verizon when the website said I was out of contract (this was not true, and I was charged an early termination fee). Verizon has been slightly better here and excellent almost everywhere else.

Can't walk upstairs or downstairs without the call dying; sometimes it dies as I'm pressed to the window. Walk away from the window and I go to roaming. Crummy quality, hard to hear. I'm displeased with Sprint.

Have had several Sprint phones, all had excellent reception at my home and throughout Montclair with the exception of some areas on or near Skyline Blvd. Currenly using a Treo 650 (solid reception no drops) and a Samsung A900 (solid reception) my wife has used several Sprint Samsung models all with good reception. I was given a Verizon phone for work (no signal at my home) switched models to the most expensive phone they had with allegedly good reception... still no signal at my home.

Sprint sucks so much azz. I've gone thru three phones in the last year, and Sprint uses each phone change as an excuse to lock me into another 2 year contract. All the while, the reception is horrible. Any 5+ min conversation has a 50% chance of dropping the call. The voice quality is muffled and robotic-y. Avoid at all cost. I wish I had.

I live up Golf Links off of Elysian Fields in Oakland. Reception normally cuts off when I start the trek up Golf Links right at the Zoo, in the first turn, it really doesn't work at all after that point, my calls just go to voicemail. Hopefully this helps somebody. My friend also has Sprint with a better model phone. A tri mode phone and it works 35 percent better than mine but they drop calls constantly as well. The only carriers that work better are Metro and Verizon, In Oakland Metro uses some of the Verizon towers, so that is all that I know about this area. Very Very Poor reception with sprint.

I have used Sprint for at least 3 years. I get some dropped calls but not that often. I used to think that Sprint was not a very good carrier, but after reading all of the comments on other carriers, I think it is much better than I gave it credit for. Sprint seems to work well in SF, downtown parts of Oakland and much of East Bay. It is very poor in Oakland hills. Nothing I read in comments convinced me that any other carrier is better, or as good, in this area. I'm sticking with Sprint.

Sprint really is the worst in the Oakland Hills. There is basically no service. I used to have Cingular and it worked fairly well, but its was no picnic either. I have found out that Verizon works the best. You can even get clear signal in Roberts Park and Tilden Park. I think I'll be moving to Verizon.

Sprint phones are practically unusable near my home and elsewhere in Montclair. My wife also has Samsung Sprint PCS phone that doesn't work. What is most frustrating is phones can occasionally get enough signal for a bar or less, and phones will actually ring, but you can't carry on conversation (no transmission / reception or disconnect). I'm thinking of moving to Verizon which I'm told (and can see on reviews) fares better in Montclair. Unfortunatly we still have several months in 2 year contract and I haven't found an acceptable substitute for Palm / phone device (i500) I currently have (Treo 600 / 650 on Verizon is logical choice but is much larger than i500).
