Sometimes I will have 4 bars but that is usually "off-hours". Many times the call will drop or become unintelligable (after the signa strength has dropped to 1 bar). I usually have to leave the phone next to the bedroom window and use my Bluetooth headset when on the phone. There appears to be no EDGE coverage -- only GPRS and GSM. Hopefully the service providers will read these comments and do something about the less-than-acceptable coverage in this area. Not sure what carrier just installed a cell tower at Mountain and Ascot but it didn't seem to help with Cingular service.
Inside the home, the reception is erratic; sometimes you get it sometimes you do not. I have waljked all over the studio trying to find the best reception are without success. I never experienced dropped call until I moved to this zip code.
The reception on this model is horrible. You can rest assured that if making or recieving calls in the area of 12th Av and East 22nd st all the way down to Park blvd your call will drop. Also, it doesn't work inside in these areas either. Most times I'm not able to use my phone until I'm actually on interstate 580 in either direction. However, it doesn't get any better once you transition onto Interstate 80 eastbound until you get to the city of Albany. From that point all the way to Vallejo it does fine.
Have had several Sprint phones, all had excellent reception at my home and throughout Montclair with the exception of some areas on or near Skyline Blvd. Currenly using a Treo 650 (solid reception no drops) and a Samsung A900 (solid reception) my wife has used several Sprint Samsung models all with good reception. I was given a Verizon phone for work (no signal at my home) switched models to the most expensive phone they had with allegedly good reception... still no signal at my home.
Constantly wavering zero to three bars, with frequent dropped calls. My wife and I both have LG flip phones from Verizon and experience the same lousy signal quality throughout the Upper Rockridge and Broadway Terrace neighborhoods. The dead spots get worse as you head up the Oakland hills near the Caldecott Tunnel.
Sprint sucks so much azz. I've gone thru three phones in the last year, and Sprint uses each phone change as an excuse to lock me into another 2 year contract. All the while, the reception is horrible. Any 5+ min conversation has a 50% chance of dropping the call. The voice quality is muffled and robotic-y. Avoid at all cost. I wish I had.
