we have a problem with a dead spot in our house. Had to buy something called a booster to boost the signal. My husband uses his phone as a hot spot in order to get internet, but even then it doesn't work very well. Any suggestions?

AT&T
Almost never had more than 1-2 bars at my place near Arastradero Rd.and El Camino. I went to them a changed the SIM card and still didn't make a difference. Never finished a phone call at my place without it getting dropped. I didn't even have full reception at AT&T store in Page Mill and El Camino. I ended up returning my phone and plan within the first month and switched to T-Mobile.

We got the microcell at home but even with it, calls tend to drop and signal fluctuates. Once we leave the house, the signal drops to 1 to 2 bars and remains that way throughout most of Palo Alto.

AT&T
Fluctuating signal strength, missed most incoming calls, and cannot always make outgoing calls. Microcell didn't help. Lots of spam text messages. Variable CSR technical competence. DAS installatons way behing schedule.

I work at Stanford and my reception with Verizon wireless is virtually non existant. Also when driving home I get no service on Alpine road and on interstate 280 / Palo Alto area. I have a use a brand new Galaxy S3. families at the hospital with Verizon service are also always complaining about how they cannot find a signal here.

Signal fluctuates from zero to full. Low signal strengths most of the time. Using Microcell still has dropped calls and need retries for out going calls. No scheduled DAS antenna completion date. 11 / 18 / 2012.

I have had ATT for years and continue to hope that coverage would improve. I am giving up and switching networks.

AT&T
Cellular voice and data reception is unusable. Often get 2 bars but still cannot make or receive calls, send text messages, or connect for data. Have installed a microcell at home, but as soon as I walk down the block, no more cellular service. Are any other carriers better, or is this down to local NIMBYs?

Finding service at my job site is impossible. I have no serivce in are building and I have to go outside and move around to get service. If I stay in one spot the call drops. The only carrier that works in the building and outside is Verizon.

Sprint
Had Sprint for several years, reception was average, slow at times but usable and the best thing was the unlimited data for a flat fee. Normally I would give it a '3' out of 5 rating but the recent Sprint network problems in Palo Alto has been terrible and they have not been able to fix it since June 7, 2012 and today is June 12. Despite their apologies and giving credit for loss of usage, they still can't fix the problems. Tech Support promised to call back for updates but that never happened. Until they get their act together, I will have to rate it a '1' for poor reception.

Verizon
Astonishing decline in signal over past year. Missed calls, delayed messages.

Sprint
It used to provide a good signal, but now I get absolutely no signal inside of the building. Reception has been really bad around this area even outside. It used to be a full strength, but now 2 or 3 signal if you are lucky. Quite few Sprint users here (Evo user, iPhone user, etc.) complain the same thing.

On i-280 between SF and Palo Alto calls drops every few seconds. Good for a few miles then drops again.

Verizon
The stoplight at intersection Page Mill Rd and Deer Creek Rd is a dead zone. No bars and no searching for service here.

Sprint
Had ATT last 3 years because it was the only carrier that got reception in the hospital. Usually had bars but many dropped calls that I didn't really care about because I assumed it was to be expected. Switched to Sprint 2 weeks ago. Reception everywhere I have been, including several known deadspots for both ATT and Verizon. The data is slow but does not effect anything that I do, (web browsing, streaming radio, youtube). My GF who also switched now gets coverage on 280 which she never had before. Infinitely better than ATT

Never had a dropped call in my life with Verizon (5-year customer). I laugh at the people who complain about it on their AT&T phones.

Outside my house in silicon valley - 2, inside 0. Not worth all the money that went into development of smart phones on a dumb network...

Have never been able to finish a call with out it being dropped. Unable to dial out 50% of the time. AT&T is simply unusable in this part of Palo Alto. I am stuck in an expensive contract for another year. Let's hope I don't need to dial 911 for an emergency.

terrible reception inside my home, marginal in many locations if it wasn't for the iphone itself I'd have left AT&T long ago

Terrible AT&T reception inside house, while friend with T-Mobile gets great reception. AT&T okay until ~4 months ago, then tanked. AT&T Rep said they were aware of "tower problem" but no estimate for repair.

Terrible reception in my College Terrace home (and yard). Calls fail over half the time, so I walk a block away to get better reception. This has been a problem for well over a year, and AT&T is aware of the problem, admits to it, and suggests I go to the AT&T store, pay $150 for a gadget, and then $20 additional each month so I can talk on my cell phone by using my Comcast internet service. Seriously!?

Okay at my house, then I drop calls all over the place. AT&T sucks the big one in Palo Alto. I'm switching to Verizon or Sprint as soon as my contract's up in a week.

Unbelieveable - ATT in the heart of Palo Alto is awful. Dropped calls all over town.

Store says they would love to erect a cell tower, but the city won't license it. Political pressure is warranted. Less complaints people more action. The cancer crazies and visual aesthetic people are ruling now. Most are old and don't see the need for a cell phone, their land lines are just fine. They want the land line for that final 911 call. They vote and are community activists.

Verizon
I can usually make / receive calls from my home, but if I'm on the phone for any length of time, the call eventually gets dropped. Not sure if it's Verizon or the phone (it was the cheapest thing they had at the time). The quality of the calls I can make / receive is not great. But I chose average because it seems like they all suck in Palo Alto. Also, sometimes I don't get voice mails for days after they are left. I had this problem when I lived in the Chicago suburbs, too, though. I think that is Verizon.

Amazing... Silicon Valley... the place were new technology is created but the local governments can't afford to roll it out. Hows that iPhone work now? This place is just falling apart.
