Phone only partially works in certain areas of the house. I was thinking of trying all of the carriers until I found this site and realized that they all have bad reception. What's up?

My phone VERY occasionally but not very often gets reception inside the house. I have to go out to the backyard or the street, and it is sometimes but not always better. The phone is a TDMA and I was with AT&T before it got acquired by Cingular. Although it's an older phone, I think the problem is AT&T / Cingular because I also lived in two places in Menlo Park in the last 4 years (Menlo Oaks and Mills St. near El Camino Real) and had the same issues with the then-new phone. Our friend who has the Motorola RAZR through Verizon gets reception in our house.

Just received. Have not been able to connect at all, even to register phone. Tried inside, outside, porch, street... useless. All this new technology and can't even get a signal at my house. Had phones for years, and this is the first one to not work at all. Sending it back.

Overall have had better coverage with Verizon. Used to have Sprint. Only place where Sprint coverage was better was in one building on company campus in Sunnyvale.

Cannot make calls in my house. Only hear a third of what people say to me. T-Mobile said there would be an upgrade in my area in 5/05.

I have the Cingular 3G network on my phone. I usually have 4 out of 5 bars on my phone. I have never had any problems getting reception at my house or anywhere in redwood city. The 3G network is great! It is better that my Verizon service I used to have.

It's really hard to say what "average" is around here because it seems that all the carriers suck. I get reception in my house, but only reliable on the second floor. I lose the signal on 280 at Woodside Road, but only in the third lane (really). 280 by alpine road is also problematic. Sometimes I lose the signal on Farm Hill but not always.

Similar to my insurance companies, cell companies have the same power to collect high dollars for no service. The process (months) of working out a solution with Verizon is more costly in my time that opting out of my contract. My basic service is $59.99 for 900 hours, but the bill is never less than $70.00. They explain this as my use of roaming and 411. I would never question the bill, if I had any service anywhere on the Peninsula. I am afraid to answer my phone unless I have the time to pull off the road at the exact spot I receive reception. To make matters worse, pulling off the road at that point of reception does not mean the call won't be dropped. I would appreciate any suggestions on services that work in the Emerald Hills, Redwood City or Woodside areas. Thanks.
