I can't make a normal call. I have to call at least 5 times for 1 conversation. All my friend are upset I can loose the reception from 5 to 10 times or more in 1 conversation. I'm really disappointed with ATT it's the worst reception I have never had in my life. I have been using cellphone for 15 years. I'm fed up with ATT it's the worst reception ever.

Consistent lack of service anywhere on North Island. Frequent dropped calls. If there is service, chances are it won't be 3G. I suspect the terrible service is due to a lack of cell phone towers and ineptitude by AT&T.

I've been an ATT customer for several years with no coverage issues. For the last yr I have experienced dropped calls or can't even make a call or send texts in the North Park area and in my home in North Park. ATT told us that the attenea on my 3gs phone was not functioning because it is common with the phone after 2 years. So we got 2 NEW iphone 4s 3 weeks ago and STILL are having problems. They said that according to "their" coverage maps we are getting good reception. The rip off is that they are trying to sell us a mircotower for $199 to use in our home! I'd rather pay a $2 convienience fee on line fee at Verizon if it meant that I could use my iphone in my neighborhood.

It has been over a year with no improvement. There coverage map shows "best" service in this area. What a crock of lies.

I barely had cell service until I got a Working MicroCell. Without the MicroCell I have constant dropped calls and failed data transfers. I bought the MicroCell from AT&T 18 months ago. The first one was a complete failure. They finally exchanged it after wasting my time for 17 weeks at the end of 2010 / beginning of 2011 (multiple service calls over 45 minutes long). I will say they did not seem to mind talking on the phone but nothing improved until I got a replacement MicroCell with a firmware update. Now service is more reliable but range is only about 30 feet. I will switch when my contract ends. Good Luck

We usually see neighbors standing on the sidewalk or in the street talking on cellphones trying to get reception; our phones (AT&T) get no reception in our house or yard, so we must go into street in front of the house; often even then it drops the call. We were advised we could buy a tower from AT&T for $150 to ensure that we would always have "five bars" on our cell phone. This device would be attached to our computer. Great, except in the event of a power outage, and why should we have to pay out-of-pocket anyway?

It is bad all along Adams Avenue, including from the entrance ramp to 805 until you get almost past where 805 goes over the 8. (AT&T always says the same thing when we call "oh there is a tower down today in your area". Liars!) Used to have Verizon and they were not a whole lot better. It happened pretty much in the beginning of August 2010. AT and T finally told me that indeed it is a Tower that has been having issues for over a week. My contract ends this month, and I might be jumping ship, if coverage does not improve.

Years ago while living in Mission Valley my carrier was AT&T. I switched to Cingular after no longer wanting to deal with the dropped calls and horrible reception and the difference was amazing--night and day! When I moved to University Heights Cingular service was still outstanding. THEN AT&T bought up Cingular and somehow within a few months time service went down the toilet. Recently I moved to Fashion Hills area and as with Mission Valley AT&T service is practically non-existent. Love the Cingular roll-over minutes legacy, but will have to find an alternative.

The situation with the iPhone and AT&T is obscene. Dropped calls even though there is 5 bars represents an obviously overtaxed network that is unable to keep up with demand. The run around you get from both sides is equally obscene. The nerve of anyone from AT&T that tries to imply that there is "good coverage in your area and there shouldn't be any problems" is a sociopath. CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. enough.

The epitome of dropped calls, "can you hear me nows", and "I will call you back from my home phone". The only plus to the situation is I am not the one talking of my cell phone driving like a knucklehead, only because I can't! Wretched service in So. Cal! I kept the service when I moved down from Nor. Cal because it was ok up there. What a learning lesson! What worked in one situation doesn't always work in others. I have heard it was my phone from some people, others swear it is the service provider. I have a sony ericsson. Even testing can be a problem because of the delay in transfer due to a "no network" statement on my phone. Good thing I pay for unlimited texting! YUCK!

Terrible reception at all times from home, a couple of blocks toward Cowles Mtn from here, and throughout the neighborhood. I think much cell reception is poor in this area because the towers are just over the crest of Cowles Mtn and obscured (from us) by the peak. Need a new tower on Navajo at Lake Murray Blvd! Impossible to carry on a phone conversation via the AT&T cell network from here--call quality is terrible and drops every minute or two. T-Mobile was *much* better--worked all the time from home. Unfortunately the iPhone got me, and only AT&T has the iPhone.

To the March 1 post about ATT, its not your phone, dont waste your time. Between my wife and I, we've tried about 5 different phones the past few years (3 different manufacturers), and none of that solved the problem. Its their poor service. It used to be fine 2 or 3 years ago, however, ever since Cingular started pairing with ATT the signals have gotten worse. We get a highly variable signal in San Carlos (which is up on a hill, no less, where you'd expect great reception) that ranges from zero to 2 or 3 bars at best, even standing outside in the parking lot. Our calls are dropped constantly, and we almost always have to use a land line now when talking from home as its nearly impossible to hold a conversation longer than 20 or 30 seconds, if that. In other words, our cell phones are useless for anything when at home except texting. Funny thing is, we've gotten much better reception calling in a relatively remote location like Yosemite Valley than we have in the middle of a city of a million people up on a hill! I've called Cingular / ATT at least 6 or 7 times the past couple of years and have spoken at length to their techical people as well, and nobody can solve the problem, which I keep telling them is that they simply need another tower! Here's a kicker: during one extended call to technical help (over 30 minutes long), the call got dropped 3 times! Twice the rep called me back (I said "see, I told you"), and the third time, only about 20 seconds into talking to a manager, the call got dropped again, and he never called me back... hmmm, go figure. They are always nice (at least the people I've spoken with) and will sympathize to no end, but they will string you along forever because the reality is they either cannot, or refuse, to upgrade their signals. One rep actually suggested that I work with local officials myself to get a new tower in our area! Can you believe that? Asking a customer to do their "dirty" work? You can come to your own conclusions on that one. When our contract runs out this year we're dumping ATT; I cant imagine that any other carrier would have worse signals in our area.

In the last 3 months - the coverage has become unmanagable - I almost NEED a land line at home now. I have the same AT&T no bars reception issues as the others - no bar IN my house, have to stand outside to get the first nub bar, then few mins in and the call drops, of course that is after 10 attempts to make the call. I called AT&T teh support - they said they have been working on the network in the Point Loma are but havent seen the improvment they hoped for and that they have an "excel" spreadsheet with the complaints. As a bonus to customers, they actually noted my account to say that I wouldnt be charged the early cancelation fee if I termed the contract and went to another carrier - Yep, thats thier solution! Now I have to find a new carrier and Ive been with them since 2000 !

I've had Cingular for a LONG time. (since late 90's) I used to have good service from it. Only ongoing issue I had was once in a while (very rarely) it would recieve a call with no ring and not deliver the notification of the missed call and (usual) corresponding vmail until a day or so later. HOWEVER, recently (last 3 months or so) it has turned HORRIBLE. So bad, that I actually stumbled on this thread while looking on the net for answers. Basically, it just drops to 0 bars of reception, for long periods of time (30 minutes to hours), and regardless of location (one minute I am at home or at a restaurant with full coverage, the next I have 0 bars and get the "No Network Coverage" when I try to make a call). I couldn't communicate with my Dad when I was late to a lunch with him. I've been cut off from conversations at night only getting coverage back the next day. (and getting their vmail) I even travelled through Houston and had it happen to me there at the airport while I was on a call: full bar to 0 bar that lasted for hours (I walked around and tried to get something, nadda). I don't like being cut off, but I also don't like people thinking I just flaked on them or snubbed them. I thought it might be my phone, though a friend who lives in Clairemont told me AT&T stinks and he has the same 0 bar issue. I'm planning on taking my phone in today to a Cingular store and finding out what is going on. If things don't resolve, I will check with my tech friends on what service to switch to.

I've been repeatedly calling cingular / ATT about poor reception in the San Carlos area for over a year. We live on a mesa, so there are no hillsides blocking (like in a valley) or tall bldgs. Consistently we get from zero to 3 bars, rarely 4, and never 5. Over 90% of the time its nearly impossible to carry out a conversation. We've had to repeatedly use land lines instead. We even upgraded both our phones to current models in an attempt to help the problem (at the suggestion of Cingular), but it did not. Recently I was told they are upgrading tower service in the area, and tried to switch us to something called a "blue" tower network (whatever that means), but that didnt solve the problem. I've gotten better reception (5 bars) in the elevator of my office downtown, and in Yosemite valley, of all places!

Customer service was very apathetic also and told me I could drop for $175- thanks for the options guys. I had a Nokia, a Motorola V550, and then another Nokia phone, none of them changed the poor coverage and terrible Cingular service. I switched to Verizon, finally, and have had maybe 2 dropped calls in the area - vs hundreds with Cingular. My recommendation - use anyone by Cingular (oh, and don't buy the bs commercials)!

Used to be fine, but Cingular reception has been getting worse and worse over the past few months; calls between wife and I frequently dropped, even with 4 or 5 bars. Reception spotty and inconsistent in La Mesa thru Mission Valley and into Downtown (I work on 4th floor, next to a window); often difficult to impossible to carry on a conversation. We both have current phones (hers a Motorola). Have made multiple calls to Cingular cust. serv. over the past few months for reception and voice mail issues, but they always tell me it must be a phone problem. After upgrading to the newest SIM card they then told me my phone had a known problem with that SIM card and they had to revert back to the older card (then why did they issue the new SIM card with my phone, if it was a known problem?). Am about ready to dump Cingular and their worsening reception and inept customer service (for failing to resolve the technical issues) for another carrier.

PV, PQ, desert highway on the I-8 going East into AZ still no problems. in general american cellphones are knock off wanna be's of japanese makes which makes them almost worthless because the antanae in japanese makes aren't as strong specifically because japan isnt as big. It is like a rollercoster ride when you are driving in this area. Reception goes up and down and it never ends when you are in that part of town. The phone I have now gets way better reception than my other phones (Moto V600, SE Z600, SE 500A). But if you are shopping for service, getting Cingular is still better than getting T-Mobile because for them, you get nothing in the area. I had T-Mobile for a year, made numerous calls to the CS to let them know there is a problem with the coverage zone, but they did not made the improvement at all. So after a year, I finally switched back to Cingular / ATT. My suggestion fro driving thru the area is to use a headset, I have found out that because the phone gets to stay at a stationary place when you are using your headset, it is less likely for you to loose the signal, at least in my case, it work. Well, good luck on the rollercoster!

This is really a problem for me because my home phone is provided by Vonage (VoIP) and if my Internet connection shuts down (it happens once in a while), I can not make any call. To use my cell phone, I always have to get out the apartment and walk towards the street to get a signal. Also, I work near the UTC mall and from there I get perfect signal. I thought it was because of my phone but it was the same with my old Nokia and my wife doesn't get reception either with her Sony Ericsson. She is on Cingular as well. The funny thing is that a friend of mine, who has a AT&T plan, gets perfect reception when he comes over.

Poor-to-no reception within my apartment. I have to take long walks outside to talk to someone. The exercise does help my frustration though.

This is one of the most crowded areas on UCSD campus, but apparently NO ONE gets reception in there...I wonder why.

Calls will drop 4 times from Torrey Pines Road to Governor Dr. & Genesee in University City. Very annoying.
Now that my contract is up, I will be leaving Cingular because of dropped calls, poor reception and static, or no coverage in areas where Verizon has coverage.
