Just switched to Verizon last week. It's perfect so far. I can get calls in my bedroom where I've never (with Sprint or AT&T over the last eight years) gotten reception. I can drive up and down Marlborough without dropping calls for the first time. If you live in Kensington, I recommend Verizon.

In my home I regularly drop calls. I will talk outside if its important. But even outside my home reception needs improvment. AT&T is better in my area. I left AT&T and Apple but see that no network is perfect.

I have always been satisfied with Verizon in San Diego. The network has been solid wherever I have lived in SD or where I travel around the country. My Blackberry is over 2 years old and I can't get a replacement battery from Verizon. I have been looking lately at AT&T for the iPhone, but the reviews of their network are alarming. I hear the earliest Verizon may carry the iPhone is 2011. May have to call Blackberry for a battery and wait another year; to bad.

Mira Mesa on Kelowna Rd., San Diego, CA 92126 Sun Aug 17, 2008

I have been with Verizon for almost two years now, and the only complaint I have is when I'm at home in Mira Mesa (along Kelowna Road), I get 0 to 1 bar of reception on my phone and it's horrible. Calls drop constantly. I'll receive calls and there's the cutting in and out of reception and then the call is lost. When I'm away from my home (on the road or just anywhere else in SD) it's fine. But the fact I can't make or receive calls when I'm at HOME is really making me think of switching to another carrier. My Verizon contract is up in Sept. 7, 2008 and I'm leaning towards AT&T and the iPhone. I'd love to read through all the pages for AT&T comments in the Mira Mesa area, but it's a bit time consuming. Any AT&T customers in the Mira Mesa area satisfied with their service? Any dead zones you experience in the area or similar difficulties?

I live in Mission Valley, I am work in La Jolla, I go Downtown often, and visit family and friends in La Mesa, El Cajon, P.B., SDSU area, Rancho Bernardo, Escondido, Torrey Highlands, Chula Vista, North Park, etc. and I don't have any issues. I was considering switching to AT&T just for the iPhone, but I notice than anytime I have a friend with bad service, they usually have AT&T. So I am staying put. Been with them since Airtouch, any drop zones, and there were very few, have been resolved, as far as I can tell. Yeah AT&T and T-Mobile have Sim Cards, but Verizon has Backup Assistant, which over the air, automatically backs up your contacts daily to their webserver, so no matter what, you always have it. Even if you lose your phone, which, if you had a Sim Card in it, you would also lose. Very happy with Verizon. 5 / 5

I would rather have no reception than poor reception, because the amount of dropped calls I suffer is insane. I ALWAYS have trouble with Verizon, and so does my wife, all over San Diego, but especially the South Bay area. Signal highly variable. Many dropped calls. When I called Verizon customer service, they tried to blame it on my phone, even though I told them that reception was perfect a few blocks away. After doing some checking, they finally admitted that there were "reception problems" in my area and that Verizon was "working on" installing a new cell tower nearby. This' was over three months ago and nothing has happened. m not sure why we are paying for this!

3 out of 3 bars on my model. Was on Cingular / AT&T and their predecessors. Coverage deteriorated during one of the sell-offs (people in the industry advised me that towers were sold off to sweeten the deal) - whenever I asked someone what carrier they had noting that they were talking easily in a building while I had to step outside, the answer was always Verizon. I switched and have been satisfied ever since, in all parts of the West Coast and Hawaii when travelling..

For a couple of years now I've suffered with dropping calls, constantly checking for voice mail, and delayed voice mail delivery (2-3 day delays!). Finally, after all the support calls over the past couple years and Verizon blaming me, my hardware, and my software and telling me to update my roaming cabability - I finally got a Verizon rep to come out and test this location. The reason I demanded this was because after all these inquiries they went and put a "Can you hear me now" billboard right next to my place - in a dead area with no signal! What a kick in the teeth I thought. Anyway, the area of Crown Point in PB has now been determined to be a dead spot that they anticipate putting equipment for a better signal in. However, they could not give an estimate as to when this would happen. I'll be surprised if it's in my lifetime. My advice - although Verizon boasts the best network, they can be the worst at spots within otherwise strong signal areas. Be sure to test the signal at your home location or work location before being clamped into a contract with them - since they won't tell you what they are going to do about improvements.

This phone works perfectly, until you drop it alot. The battery connection on the phone gets loose. I have not found any "dead zones".

It goes from full to no signal; without moving the phone. Also switches to roam and back in the same area. I could understand 2 years ago, when there were no homes, but now the whole area is full of new homes. Plenty of Cingular users, but no Verizon or AT&T users... no signal...

Verizon is the only company that gets reception in my home. Friends have spotty reception with Sprint. No bars with Nextel. No bars with Cingular.

I have been with Verizon since they were called Airtouch and instead of improving reception it has been on a steady decline. Reception in Sierra Mesa is absolutly terrible!

I hate my phone, I hate Verizon and I just want to tell everyone, don't believe the hype about all new phones. Make sure your phone is tri-mode!

I get quite a few dropped calls, system busy signals, call failure when trying to dial and answer. Overall I would say Verizon is a very poor provider no matter how they rate with consumer reports and JD powers. I had ATT GSM before and will most certainly go back when my contract expires. They offered MUCH better service.

It's an area that gets poor reception and Verizon seems to be the best here. I had AT&T and got poor to no coverage in Ocean Beach.
