I used to have a very old Nokia and the reception was bad.. But I believe it was mainly due to my old phone since I dropped it a lot. Then I got a new phone, the Samsung SGH-E315. Reception is usually consistent (usually 5), although once in a while it would be 2-4. I've never gotten disconnected, except for one time when there was a giant storm in San Diego back in January. T-Mobile has excellent service. My friend who has cingular, would get disconnected every 15 minutes. I'm glad that T-Mobile (formerly Voicestream) exists. All my friends use T-Mobile now! Not only because of free mobile to mobile, but the reception is amazing! :D

Terrible area. If you are north of La Jolla Village Dr.on Towne Centre Drive, the call drops. You have to be in the right spot to get reception. And there is significant commerce in this area.

ATT Wireless has now been bought up by Cingular and so any customer that was ATT is now Cingular. The service has not changed that much for me. Any time I'm on Del Mar Hts Rd or Carmel Country Rd or the entrance / exit ramps to the 56 at Carmel Valley road, all of these places I have spotty and shakey coverage. 50% of the time I will drop calls in all of these areas. My phone was 300 bucks and I am on the ATT / Cingular GSM service and still, all these dropped calls or calls that go to vmail automatically. Better than Sprint though, tried them for years to no avail in this area. I think "average" in this area means dropping alot of calls.

I live in the UTC area, in an appartment complex called Pines of La Jolla. My appartment is on the first floor of a 3-story building. I never had any reception from there! Sometimes my phone rings but if I take the call, I immediately lose the connection. This is really a problem for me because my home phone is provided by Vonage (VoIP) and if my Internet connection shuts down (it happens once in a while), I can not make any call. To use my cell phone, I always have to get out the apartment and walk towards the street to get a signal. Also, I work near the UTC mall and from there I get perfect signal. I thought it was because of my phone but it was the same with my old Nokia and my wife doesn't get reception either with her Sony Ericsson. She is on Cingular as well. The funny thing is that a friend of mine, who has a AT&T plan, gets perfect reception when he comes over.

So I have had Sprint PCS for almost 6 years now and have had very little to complain about int the reception dept. When compaired to the other carriers out there I love the service. I get reception almost everywhere I have evr visited. which includes, NYC, KC MO/KS, San Fran, San Antonio, TX, Rhode Island, Connecticut, State College PA, Oahu, HI, New Orleans, LA, El paso, TX, LA CA, Las Vegas, NV, Miami, FL are just a few of the places that I have visited. As you can see I have been all over this country. The only complaint that I have with Sprint is that they do not offer many phones that can be connected to a handsfree car kit. Which in CA is a very big deal. There are a few dead spots in San Diego that I know of that I cross daily, but that is the same with all of the carriers in this town.

T-Mobile has done me good. I never drop a call and the quality of my calls are all excellent. As a matter of fact I have never dropped a call anywhere I go in San Diego. I even work in an old building made of thick concrete and I still get all the bars on my phone. T-Mobile is the best in my humble opinion for reception in my area.

Poor-to-no reception within my apartment. I have to take long walks outside to talk to someone. The exercise does help my frustration though.

After trying Cingular and Nextel in the past (unsuccessfully), Verizon is the only service that actually works in my house and in the surrounding neighborhood (Normal Heights) without dropping calls.

I get perfect reception everywhere in Tierrasanta except at the east end of Clairemont Mesa Blvd. If you live there, good luck. There isn't much reception from any provider. I would definately recommend Sprint, besides the end of Clairemont Mesa Blvd. the only place in San Diego County that I have never had service was Palomar Mountain School Camp.

For a couple of years now I've suffered with dropping calls, constantly checking for voice mail, and delayed voice mail delivery (2-3 day delays!). Finally, after all the support calls over the past couple years and Verizon blaming me, my hardware, and my software and telling me to update my roaming cabability - I finally got a Verizon rep to come out and test this location. The reason I demanded this was because after all these inquiries they went and put a "Can you hear me now" billboard right next to my place - in a dead area with no signal! What a kick in the teeth I thought. Anyway, the area of Crown Point in PB has now been determined to be a dead spot that they anticipate putting equipment for a better signal in. However, they could not give an estimate as to when this would happen. I'll be surprised if it's in my lifetime. My advice - although Verizon boasts the best network, they can be the worst at spots within otherwise strong signal areas. Be sure to test the signal at your home location or work location before being clamped into a contract with them - since they won't tell you what they are going to do about improvements.

It goes from full to no signal; without moving the phone. Also switches to roam and back in the same area. I could understand 2 years ago, when there were no homes, but now the whole area is full of new homes. Plenty of Cingular users, but no Verizon or AT&T users... no signal...
