Absolutely no reception in or around the house. Minimal on Ocean Ave also. Just moved here, and depend on cell phone for work. Might have to switch services.

Been with VERIZON for 5 yrs now. At first I thought it was the phone and so I upgraded and bought a different one. Still Very bad reception. I have to move from room to room in my house in order for my phone to barely work. At times my calls are constantly forwarded to my voice mail without my phone even ringing. I have now been through 4 different phones, upgraded roaming capabilities, spoken to Verizon who assured that Service is good in SAN FRANCISCO, NOT! I am ready to MOVE-ON!

its used to be at least 2 signal bars. And still able to talk with 2 to 3 drops a time. But now the signal bar went from 2 to 0 (nothing). My phone always tried to search for network... beepee... if I move near the window. the phone will show 1 or 2 bars. If I turn around, the call drop dead... .

Cingular sucks in the Mission! I have to walk two blocks just to get one bar. -And then the call usually drops anyway! According to customer service, Cingular provides "excellent" coverage in my neighborhood, but I sure as hell don't see it!

Really bad reception if any. On Eureka until I get to about 21st street. At home there is usually no service. I had to keep a land line and forward my cell phone there.

My Cingular service in downtown North Beach, or on any side of Telegraph Hill or Russian Hill is below average. Have not been wowed by Cingular, that's for sure. Although I am an old ATT customer, so not sure if my level of service is reflective of that. It seems to me that everyone has problems with their carrier in San Francisco in certain areas. It's just a sad reality that US cellular companies can charge as much as they do and then deliver sub par service. All because they won't pony up for more towers to reduce that high incidence of lost calls, poor signals, etc. Talk about a monopoly. This town needs a progressive company like NTT DoCoMo to come in here and force these lazy US carriers to clean up their act.

I get no reception within 1-2 blocks of my house in any direction. Occasionally I'll get 1-2 bars on the top floor of my house while perched in my window and only after searching for a new GSM network. Totally worthless to me. My roommate is also with T-Mobile with a different phone and he has no reception either.

I've been with Verizon for 5 years. My reception at 43rd and Ulloa, even with a new phone (yes optimized for reception), is consistently weak (i.e., horrible). Verizon needs to look at its coverage in this area. I will otherwise move to another carrier.

I get perfect reception in my neighborhood (8th and Judah)... but for some reason Nextel drops calls around UCSF and Cole Valley. Also, horrible coverage inside buildings in the Castro (even though sidewalk and street reception is good there). Weird.

T-mobile is BAD inside apartments. I get reception when I'm away at college, but I get nothing when I'm at home. This sucks. It doesn't even work to sit near the window, I have to walk outside to get reception (and even that isn't great -- sometimes I have to cross the street). My dad has Metro PCS and he gets reception everywhere inside and outside, floors 1, 2, and 3. Let's all get Metro PCS! That's what I'm doing next year.

Service is OK. I know of one 'dead spot' on Pacific between Jones and Taylor. Other than that I've had very few dropped calls. Service coverage goes as far north as Fairfax, but I'm not sure about how far south.

I find I get excellent call quality almost all the time from anywhere in the house and around it. I occasionally have a problem when a very large truck goes by.

I have had Sprint PCS and experience excellent coverage in the Bay Area. It does fade when you get up into the mountains, or off the major roads in the wine country, but very few complaints about dropped calls or missing coverage in my day-to-day life, even indoors - phone even works in many elevators! Was thinking of switching to a GSM carrier for better phone selection, but having second thoughts after reading the reviews here.

I switched to T-Mobile because they had excellent rate plans. Their customer service is top notch, but their service sucks! I've never had soo many dropped calls and dead zones in my life. You get what you pay for, but in this case I'd pay more for better reception.

Can not get any reception in my house, right in middle of block between 14th and 15th. Used to be able to get weak reception when I had AT&T. I've had it - I'm going to look for a new carrier.

I thought I had REALLY bad service with Sprint until I read all the other reviews of other services! Maybe I'll stick to Sprint. 95% or more of the time I have no problem making or getting calls and they sound good. It's that the dead spots are just plain weird. Within 10 feet of any BART station (above ground within 10 feet) I get no coverage or I'm on analog roam. There are also many other odd spots like that where I get nothing or analog roam and if I step 10 feet away I get full digital. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to where the spots are. There are several downtown. Also I get pretty much 0 coverage outside of cities. If I'm on the freeway at all, or in wine country anywhere, I get nothing or analog roam. I stood out in the middle of the road once to make a call from a winery. But, the phone works great in LA and Honolulu. It's strange. Customer service is pretty good. No complaints. Maybe I'll stick with Sprint. If the place I'm standing is dead at least I can walk 10 feet and get a signal!

I get generally good reception with Nextel all over San Francisco and the East Bay except in the Oakland Berkeley Hills. There are a few dead spots but mostly it just works. Marin County is another story. Outside of the Hwy. 101 corridor it's mostly no service.
