Verizon provides excellent coverage from Nob Hill to the Financial District. No dropped calls, no interference. The only place I get a dropped call is on the lower deck of the eastern span of the Bay Bridge.

Switched to Sprint from Verizon, where I could not make calls from home or in the Castro district. Sprint has worked well for me in most of the city. I also commute to Walnut Creek each day, and reception is good the entire route.

I live in a ground level apartment along Church St. and get absolutely no reception at home. Also, one my phone loses the network I have to turn it off and back on to get it to look for a signal if I walk outside.

Sprint has been steadily getting better in San Francisco, and I've had them for 4 years now. Still the occasional dropped call from my house in TI, otherwise no complaints at all.

Although usually 2-3 bars inside, 5 outside, reception always clear and no dropped calls. Have had this phone one year now, and have yet to find a bad reception area in SF, rest of CA, SC, NY or IL (my frequent travel cities); this is a tri-mode phone, and I have also had good luck with it in Hong Kong, KL, and Penang on GSM.

Although I'm in a hilly area, I have line of sight to nearby Sutro tower. Reception is very poor; two bars is the maximum signal strength I receive. Dropped and missed calls are the norm.

I cannot get any reception from inside my home unless I'm on the second floor or if I walk outside to my yard where I get 1 bar. I switched over from Cingular to T-Mobile, entirely my father's fault for trying to save a few extra bucks.

Get three bars in building and 4 outside-seem to get reasonable reception everywhere in a several block radius. Rarely is no reception a problem

Little to no reception in Pac Heights. Cingular is by far the worst of the carriers in the Bay Area.

Very poor and erratic reception in my house- need to walk to outside and even that is not a guarantee of reception / cell phone functionability. I was told by local cell phone vendor (Cingular / T Mobile and Verizon) that all cell phone vendors in my area of Sunset have poor reception - this is due to local neighborhood act a couple years ago that prevented Cell phone companies from putting in transmitter towers (too many 'schools and children'). Not sure if this is the real reason, but I do remember reading about this neighborhood activity against the cell phone companies. From reading other comments in this forum, I see that the general pattern is that every cell phone company does appear to have difficulty with reception in 94116 area though.

Can rarely make / receive any calls on this part of the island. The only hope is to do so outside or by walking around the island till you find a place where the signal is favorable. Unfortunately, Sprint seems wholly unaware of Treasure Island's existance when you try to call and find out whether they have any plans for any towers on either Treasure Island or Yerba Buena Island at any point. Unfortunately, it seems most carriers are not much better on Treasure Island...

Sprint used to work well all over my home and in most of S.F. Now I routinely get several bars of reception but when I try to place a call I get "No Service". I also get dropped in the middle of calls. Worse, it seems that the Treo does not take well to these "No Service" problems: my phone freezes most of the time a call drops and occasionally crashes. This all seems to have gotten worse in the last month or two. I wonder if it has something to do with the Sprint / Nextel merger?

Very intermittent service with Sprint at this location. Usually no connection, and if you are lucky enough to get one or two bars, they disappear either before your call goes through, or within the first 30 seconds of the call. This means you really can't take advantage of Sprint's "free included nationwide long distance calling feature" because you can't make any calls from home. Also, no calls ever come through to this location, and people have shown me (on their own phones' call logs) that they have called, but either have gotten no voicemail or a recording that there is no service (as if I have cancelled my service). Two years ago, Sprint promised there would be new towers and improved service in this area within a year, but their technicians now say (two years later) that there are NO PLANS TO BUILD ANY NEW TOWERS IN THE NEAR FUTURE. The problem lies foremost with Sprint (not building more towers and / or repeaters) and possibly the City of San Francisco (for not allowing construction of more towers / repeaters).

When I first switched over to Cingular from the merged AT&T I got excellent coverage, then, inexplicably, two-three weeks ago, the coverage began to go haywire. I almost cannot have a conversation in my office. I go out the front door onto the street, and get nothing, then back inside and out the back door to get half a conversation. It has happened all over town. When I talk with a partner with a newest Treo down the peninsula, on the same Cingular service, we can hardly talk. He is having the same trouble all over the country. At first I thought it was weather, but now I believe they must have shot down a couple of their own satellites, or dishes, or whatever.
