I have excellent service with Nextel obviously it will drop calls quite frequently in some areas but other major carriers I've had have the same problem in most areas of the city. I'm not sure if it's 3G iDEN or not but the web sure is fast as hell and teathering for a computer works just fine. Sometimes on a low signal texts will send slow. But with iDEN it uses a data connection to send text messages so web doesn't go very fast without a strong signal so that's to be expected but overall great service. Loving Nextel!
All over the place. I can be sitting at my desk (ground floor in front of unobstructed window) and watch the bars jump from 5 to 3 to No Service. I've noticed more and more dropped calls on this phone (never had this problem until about 3 months ago) throughout central San Francisco. When calling back, I now start the conversation with "Fewest dropped calls, my a**!"
1st floor inside wood frame building - poor reception - static when calls connect, dropped calls are common. May occaisonially (rarely) get 2 to 3 bars that go up and down even when not moving...
Very strange--on the 12th floor, I get full-scale or nearly full-scale reception, but there's a lot of interference, and sometimes there's no sound at all. No dropped calls, but it's very hard to use.
I have been hearing nightmares about other carriers. I have had Srpint for 5 years. I have ugraded my phone on every contract renewal date. Hate to say this in front of those having problems, but I have never, repeat never had a dropped call in 5 years. Reception is always available regardless of my location. Sprint has been and continues to be a great experience. Good luck.
I hate ATT for many reason, but get perfectly decent reception in most areas including the Canadian Rockies on vacation. I get 3-5 bars in my SOMA apartment even in the section that is below ground level. The fact is that the specific phone plays much of the issue, and the iPhone's reception SUCKS! All my friends who have one have issues, but those of us that stuck with older phones have little to no problem anywhere. Of course I did have bad reception around Kanab Utah, but look it up on a map and you'll understand why. No problem in Page, Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, Sedona or Phoenix areas.
Since the SOMAGrand and first Trinity Apt. Tower went up, AT&T reception has diminished considerably. Both Palm Treo 650 and new iPhone 3GS reception are awful. Am considering a booster for the building. The Clear Voice 800 or jdteck devices. They run about $200 - $300. Anyone have experience with these?
I work on the corner of Mission and 13th and the AT&T reception is horrible! Everyone at my office complains about how their AT&T phone don't work at all in theis building. And outside, I can only get edge at best for data speed!
the iPHONE 3GS has been a big disappointment. For all the money we pay per month it's not worth it. It drops calls all over the place especially at home in Emeryville. No reception. It switches between Edge and 3G while I'm in the same spot. ATT and APPLE owe us money back!
