Just about every call I've ever made from my house has been dropped. Sometimes I have to sit right up against the window and hold perfectly still to avoid losing the call, and even that doesn't always guarentee it. And as for when driving down 280 or even 101, don't get me started! Metro PCS is cheap and has unlimited minutes, but it's only worth it if you don't mind re-starting every conversation, and text messages being slower than paper mail.

Let's face it, every cell provider has it's problems. I have been with Sprint PCS, Verizon, and Cingular in the past and have experienced terrible billing issues, customer service, and coverage. I am now with T-Mobile, and they also have their problems with coverage. However, no more than the other major players. In addition, their billing and customer service are far superior to the competition, and their rates and plans are far less expensive than Sprint, Verizon and Cingular. I am less frustrated by T-Mobile when I do have dropped calls, etc., because I can always call customer service and get right to an agent, and do not feel like I am paying too much money for faulty service in the process.

Poor reception on CINGULAR towers; however, my phone allows selection of AT&T network (Cingular refers to RED and BLUE networks). AT&T (only) is 2 to 3 bars. So as long as I keep my phone 'locked' to AT&T towers, I've got service (I'm concerned about 'upgrading' phones to lesser-capable model--Cingular REQUIRES manufacturers to give company total control, removing user features enjoyed with European phones / networks).

Verizon provides excellent coverage from Nob Hill to the Financial District. No dropped calls, no interference. The only place I get a dropped call is on the lower deck of the eastern span of the Bay Bridge.

Get three bars in building and 4 outside-seem to get reasonable reception everywhere in a several block radius. Rarely is no reception a problem

This part of nob hill is nearly a dead zone for Sprint PCS, at least for my Treo 650 and my other Sprint phone. I'm not exactly sure why, but it is nearly impossible to get reception in this entire square block. Otherwise, I've had very poor reception overall with my Sprint phone in SF.

Intermittent problems - TMobile tower is northeast of concrete building - from 3 full bars(max) when it's on to lengthy periods of No T-Mobile Signal. NOTE: ALWAYS a good AT&T signal

Very spotting off and on -- though it seems to pick up within a couple blocks. I have two Cingular phones, one for work and one personal.

I have no problems inside my 2nd story apartment and haven't had a dropped call yet. About a year ago I put a reception booser on my battery that has helped.
