AT&T Used to work well in LA, but after moving up to San Jose, the reception is really really bad.. At school, bar shows like 2~3 with HSDPA, but it fails to connect to 3g internet. Phone call works just okay in campus.. but when I go to the Target, Costco, Walmart in San Jose area, phone does not work at all. As soon as I get in to the store no signals at all.. AT&T sucks like hell in whole San Jose area. WIRELESS PHONE MUST WORK NOT DEPENDING ON YOUR LOCATION. This is ridiculous. I'll move to VRZW right after my contract ends

Zero bars.. when I drive east on Aborn, the bars just disappear when I cross white road, nothing, zip, silch,nada. ATT has literally no service in the entire 95135 zip code. I try to dial out or access my voice mail, I get 'No network service' message. just horrible. Im getting out of ATT as sson as my contract end. its just useless.

I have AT&T, and my primary areas of stay are stokes st and tasman dr. I have not more than 2 bars (out of 5) at stokes, and none in the buildings at river oaks. While I can comfortably call in some areas just 4-5 miles away from these areas. I can never call anyone, nor accept calls. 100% drops.. If I call customer service, to my surprise, they say that they cannot open a ticket for my issue because "nobody complained about the AT&T signal issues in these areas". They say its my "phone's problem"... . and if that does not work out they say "its a maintenance issue"... . I had this issue going on for last 2 months since I am here at San Jose.. so "is the maintenance going on for last two months ??".. I asked them... finally they say... "its because of more number of users in ur area".. God.. just excuses... . excuses... .excuses... .. Its all weird.. they dont provide the real information / causes etc.. It does not seem as if they are really interested in knowing the problem and addressing it... AT&T will face a real issue if they continue in this way... with a bad signals... customer service... . everything... I am going to try Verizon prepaid (go phone) for a month, and then decide how to proceed. Not sure if this works out... but seems that my friends with Verizon were not having the issue..

Dropped calls constantly after 20 seconds, no reception whatsoever in this area. It's only after you get to Starbucks that you get coverage.

I get intermittent dropped calls. Many times have to go out of my home for the call, even then there are several dropped calls. I wonder how they show this area as 3G. I did notice the same while traveling from voltaire to Capital, When u reach Capitol, the reception becomes average. I wonder where their tower is? --MC

Cell reception at my house is terrible. I had to purchase a MicroCell from AT&T because reception at my house was so bad (and the iphone had not come out on Verizon yet). Even that is terrible. Still drops calls, sometimes poor voice quality, hands off to the tower sometimes (which makes calls drop or start to be unintelligible because the tower signal strength is only 1 or at most 2 bars). When the new iphone (iphone 5) comes to Verizon I will probably switch carriers.

ATT rates this area as full 3G. It is not 3G. I experience often NO Services, 1 bar, many dropped calls, intermittent connection. ATT customer service are complete liars. As a matter of fact service from Ruby Rd up towards the hills is about the same. Evergreen HS is lousy as well. Verizon in this area has a better signal. I will terminate my ATT contact and likely move to Verizon since ATT is not interested in service and only making excuses for the service. I think they should rate this area from 3G to NO service then everyone would not be mislead they can't use their service reliability in this area.

lived in Missouri in the stick's and had about 30% coverage and great wi fi access. moved to san jose and have almost 0% coverage. have to tell friends and family to call me on the house line. not worth the $110 i'm paying a month. let's not talk about ATT cutting the unlimited data package down to 2GB's a month last june!

Inside the house, both AT&T and Verizon has single bar. AT&T call drops more often than verizon.

I was getting 4 bars for reception on my new iphone 4, but I was getting 'Call Failed' on almost every call I made. If I turned Airplane mode ON, then OFF again (this causes the search for the network), then I could call once or twice. I had to do this each time I made a phone call. After ruling out hardware (swapped phones at Apple), I tried turning the 3G network mode to OFF in this area. Now I can call everytime!

For the last two weeks, most calls immediately fails with "call fails: network busy" I don't think it is a signal quality issue, looks like their network is too congested.

AT& T is the worst carrier among all in this area. Many people have complained but AT&T does not listen and basking in the glory of i_phone growth it has been enjoying. I am guessing, it would be coming soon to end with popularity of droid phones and Verizon network.

AT&T is terrible in this area. I have had five phones and none of them have worked well. All last week AT&T dropped every call. I noticed that AT&T signal varies during the time of day. Afternoon is the worse. It seems that is when the tower usage is the heaviest. My cellphone does not work in my house. I have called AT&T many times and they just tell me to upgrade and pay twice the price with no guarantee it will solve the problem. Customer support is a joke. They read from a script. I don't believe they know how to think in resolving problems.

Depending on where I am in my house I will usually have either 0, 1 or 2 bars. Sometimes the display will SHOW 4 bars but if I try to make calls or receive them, the bars go to 0-1 and the call will fail either immediately or within a few seconds after being placed / received. It's very sad up here in the foothills. All AT&T needs to do is put some repeaters or towers up here to solve a lot of problems.

The signals come and go. All radio frequency devices seem to be affected also. can't even use wireless home phones

I don't know why everyone's having so many problems with AT&T. I usually always have 5 bars unless I'm in a classroom that's downstairs, or for some reason, inside of Victoria's Secret. I'm rating it average though because sometimes I need to dial a number twice before it will actually go through, this is pretty rare though. Otherwise, I can't complain, the service is fine all over SJ.

Not able to connect to the voicemail because of the incredibly poor reception. Had filed a complain with California Utilities Commission about the issue but the service has not been improved at all.

San Jose has to be the worst, I try not to take any calls while on the 101, 87, 880 forget how about I try not to take calls on all the freeways when in San Jose, AT&T is marginal at best. 0 bars! So frustrating. When not on a call, phone indicates full signal strength. However, as soon as I press the "Talk" button, the signal strength meter drops to zero. "Failed to connect" error on outbound calls. Inbound calls go straight to voicemail with an average 30 minute delay in notification. Calls that do connect are choppy and garbled. Callers always complain that they can't hear me when I can hear them. Personal and business associates get frustrated with me and hang up on me. It's the area east of White Rd. I've been with both Verizon and cingular / AT&T. Same poor quality. Only 1.2 miles from the tower on i-680

At&t reception is very bad in this area especially on the grounds of Agnews. I usually only get two bars and there are several dead spots where calls are always dropped. There is no reception in the buildings. I also have a Verizon phone provided by the State and I never have any problems with it in the same areas it always has five bars even inside the buildings.

We switched from Verizon to AT&T, my huband has a blackberry and I reception sucks. Its totally hit or miss inside our home, forcing us to have a home phone line. We have tons of drop calls in our home, at the duck park, and the newer park across aborn is completely no service zone.

Terrible reception from AT&T. In Elan at River Oaks apartment complex I get one bar at most and no data. When outside connections are spotty, three bars at best. Even with a cell booster my cell is almost useless inside.

At long last AT&T has brought their tower in operation at Foothill Presbyterian Church (5301 McKee Rd) We have noticed that this area of the Eastside of San Jose, has tremendous Improvement to reception..

You have to be out on River Oaks Pkwy. or Montigue Expy to get receptions. AT&T top level customer service acknowledge this problem because they ended a service contract to share cell tower with T-Mobile. My quad band phone is able to pickup T-Mobile signals -- but it's for emergency call out only. AT&T / Cingular sucks. (but... their top level customer service is nice and willing help people)

I have called AT&T Customer Service of all the drop calls I experience while driving within a 5 mile radious of my home... they keep telling me it's my phone / equipment. which is a joke. I even dropped a call while talking to a Technician who "Finally" understood my fustration and noted it in their "log" which no one reads. He made a Case # and forwarded it on to the Network folks who didn't read the notes of the last call let alone the last 7 calls. and porceeded to tell me it was my phone again. I really think they get a kick out of being deceitful. in other words knowing that there having Cell Tower Issues yet not willing to acknowledge them. it's easier to fustrate the Customer now days then to admit they are experiencing a problem... I'm very happy to see a place where the Customer can voice the truth of the matter. AT&T Service is not good! and their Customer service is worse.

For the past 3 years I had Verizon BB for work and although on occassion it would not work in certain spots in my house, overall I could use it almost everywhere and in my yard it worked well. Last month my new job gave me ATT and I cannot use it at home. 90% of the time I cannot even place a call. People will call me and it won't ring... calls go to voice mail. Everytime I am finally able to get through the call drops or reception is horribly bad and garbled.

Absolutely no reception in my 1st floor apartment, not even in the patio. Can only get 2-3 bars when Im totally out of the building! I moved in in July 07 and was having v gd reception until end Aug. 6 weeks later when I returned fm an overseas trip, there is no reception at all.

My cell service in Alum Rock Area is absolutely horrible with AT&T (formerly Cingular). And I thought they had the fewest dropped calls? I'm thinking of paying 175 to cancel my account and switch to Verizon...

Most of the time I get Zero to 1 bars and sometimes no signal at all. It is really bad that we cannot get any signal all in the hills. Move 1 / 2 mile down the hill and the signal is good to excellent. Hope they put up a cel site near the hills.

Improved slightly over the last few years but still could be better. Overall Cingular advertises the fewest dropped calls, so I have to really wonder how bad all the other providers are since I get dropped calls all the time all over San Jose. Time to try someone else.

Cingular / AT&T is dead 0 bar indoors, terrible outdoors (with different phones from Siemens, SE and Samsung). Spring has 3+ bars clear and stable reception at any location indoors.

I can use my phone most places but can usually NOT use it at my home, which is at the bottom of Communication Hill. People who visit me and have service other than AT&T have no problem using their phones.

Horrible service at the Pines. Every once in a while I get a bar or two inside the apartment, but never can make a phone call from inside. On the balcony I get one bar or two if I'm lucky and conversations almost always end in a dropped call.

The recption on the opposite side of Almaden Lake sucks! There's better Cingular single but I am AT&T user and can't use it!

Call drops every time from the 85 N to 86 N onramp, so getting reception in this area is troublesome. Can only make / receive calls from home (One Pearl Place) about 30% of the time, and calls drop frequently. I've given up on voice calls from my own apartment. Hopefully Verizon will be better.

Nearly no reception and usually got cut off. Lots of missed call. There are new housese being built around the area and I think this is the main reason. Need to build more towers.

Zero to 2 reception in condo, I have to leave building for any reception at all. In car reception can be from good to zero depending where you are driving. It seems reception is better west of Senter. Spotty on 101 or 280.

Choppy Reception from Cingular. Looking to swap carriers because the reception is so un reliable. The call doesn't drop but people cannot hear me and I cannot hear people.

I have had Cingular for 5+ yrs and have been pleased with the service, even though calls seem to drop at the most random places (101, 280, etc). After moving to a new housing development on Communications Hill, I have HORRIBLE coverage. I have called Cingular repeatedly to complain and the coverage is still JUNK!

With Cingular, generally the reception is great. Though some days it seems horrible. Even though they are all horrible, when I used T-Mobile they had the worst cell service and worst customer service.

Dropped Calls daily all around the Campbell area

My wife and I have had Cingular Wireless for a long time. We have always had decent reception at home, but about two weeks ago, it just went dead. We can't get incoming calls, they just go to VM and we get two bars, then 1, then 0, on most calls we try to place. All calls eventually drop and that's only when they actually go through to begin with. Most of the time the person on the other end of the line can't hear us. I tried using different phones and had friends with Cingular come over and everyone has the same problem. I called Cingular and they basically said tough luck. I used to work for Cellular One / AT&T Wireless and know that cell companies sometime shut down cell sites. They claim that is not the case, but there is no other explination as to why we had good service for so long and now we don't. We have good reception anywhere other than near our residence. Don't get Cingular if you live in this area. They suck and their customer service is the worst in the business. They claimed they would fill out a trouble ticket to find out if there's something wrong with the cell sites in our area, but they've never followed up and I just end up on hold when I call back. They suck! We are going to try Metro PCS once this contract is up. Does anyone know much about this company and their coverage in the 95136 area? THANKS

Poor and choppy all across Valley View Ave, up most of Alum Rock Ave to Rennie, continuing unintelligible down Greenside to Gordon, and terrible on back to McKee. Extremely poor in SaveMart supermarket at McKee and Toyon and extremely poor in the parking lot. Cingular says there are 6 Cingular cell towers within a 3 mile radius, but they don't do us any good around here.

Extremely bad reception inside the house - frequently dropped calls. Outside, it manages to hold but with real poor quality. This is the old AT&T TDMA network (Not GSM). Quality has gone down the drain - from what used to be 3 bars, now you get only one if you're lucky. They've been trying to force people to join their GSM network which also sucks in this area. So why bother - except get a cool phone and yet another 2-year contract...

Really bad performance inside. Never has been a time when I have been able to hear the called / calling party completely. Have to roam around in the house to find a spot where I can continue the call. Sprint was 10 times better. Switching back to Sprint.

I have Cingular. My Reception used to be good up to 2 weeks ago. Now I get one to no bars. Signal strength change even if I'm standing still. Only difference was that I changed from Cingular individual plan to the Family Plan. I hope thats not the cause of the recent poor service. I wonder if a cell tower is no longer working. Has anybody heard anything

Parts of Jasmine circle (a community with 180+ houses) near Yerba buena receives NO SIGNAL at all. I hope Cingular does something about it soon. Due to bad / zero reception, the cellphone batteries also discharge very fast.

Get around 3 bars - sometimes 2, sometimes 4. Decent coverage for being up in the hills around Mt Pleasant / Evergreen.

I live close to the intersection of Race St. and Fruitdale Ave. in San Jose. Inside my house, I get very poor reception, lots of dropped calls. If I can keep the call going long enough to make it outside, then its fine. In my front yard, and near the street reception is pretty good- 3 or 4 bars. I have never had a dropped call when I was outside the house. I have found that performance varys quite a bit between phone models. I have had Nokia phones that performed well and others that were unuseable. Best phone was an Erickson T28. My current phone, the Nokia 6800, seems to have pretty good reception.

This is actually an older ATT Wireless TDMA account and not Cingular's newer GSM service. GSM in this area hardly works at all. At my house there is zero reception with a GSM phone. The TDMA signal is perfect however.

This is in the Evergreen Valley. I got better reception with my old phone. When I upgraded to the V3, reception dropped. Also, this phone is worthless in a metal building and reception way down in a mall.

Some calls are good. But others can be terrible. Not sure why such a swing from bad to good. Better by a window or outside. Building may have plaster, but should not have large amounts of cement.

Had ok reception since April 2005 when I started the service. Over the last 2 weeks, I've had no signal. Cingular keeps stonewalling me. I'm ready to bolt.

Awful no reception in Sleepy Creek area. Frustrating needs a signal tower here or close by. There are no signal improvements least 6 years of this area. The technology so old or maybe just money issue?

Often, at the start of the call, the reception will read 5 bars, but as soon as the conversation starts, the voice quality almost always degrades, often very severely. Then, when I look, the reception will have 1 bar or less. I have tested this with a Motorola V505 and a Nokia 3120. The problem is less frequent with the Nokia, but the symptoms are the same.

Can only get reception in the NE corner of the ouse

At best, I get 2 bars max. Mostly it is 1 bar and really bad reception. People on the other side always hear static from my cell phone. I am very dissappointed and frustrated with my phone service.

Upstairs window facing NE is the only chance of making a call. Even when connected, the call quality would be so bad that I could hardly carryon a meaningful conversation.

I'm on T-Mobile but my phone always displays "Cingular". I can talk just fine but a co-worker with a Palm Treo 600 on Cingular has to go outside to get acceptable reception.

Not bad in this area for Cingular, although if you are inside or near a building, reception tends to fluctuate some. Cingular is WAY better than T-Mobile in this area. My friend came over to my house and he got NO signal whatsoever on a Inno 90 phone. I had a average 2 bars out of 4 in my house on the Nokia 8390. This phone is only single-band 1900mhz. If I had a dual band phone, I could imagine i'd be getting more signal.

Cingular recently (mid-2004) installed a tower in the Knob Hills shopping complex. Since then, I have perfect reception in my house... Before that, I got zero signal.

This is a bad spot for almost all cellphone carriers, as on one side are hills and almost no cellphone coverage. Used to have Verizon (LX 4400). Very patchy service at home with call drops within one minute. Did the *228 thingy a few times, but no better results. Now switched to Cingular GSM and its amazing. Not only can I now hold a full call without call drop, but the call quality is amazing. It even passes the ultimate dead zone test (driving on Yerba Beuna between San Felipe to 101) and I was talking the entire time, without a single call drop or call quality impairment. It usually shows 2-5 bars at home. Some calls do get to voicemail without ringing, but over all much better reception than Verizon.

Since Cingular took over AT&T's towers, reception is great. All over San Jose I keep calls and never lose a single one. I've had Cingular for years and it would tick me off when I'd go up into the back hills of silver lake and have ZERO reception, now I have 4 bars!

I just signed up a new phone with Cingular for one year and get a new Motorola V180 phone. It work well when I used it on the streets one mile away from my home, but within one mile around my home area, I cannot receive any phone call or make any phone call, even I had 4 bars showing on my phone. I went back to Cingular dealer but they told Cingular just install a new tower in this area, however they cannot fix my problem.

Usually drop calls along Fleming. Once I get to the house though (a mere block off of Fleming) I get 3-4 bars. Go figure. Cingular in general has been pretty good, but I do wonder about other services.
