Unusable in apartment, not even ringing most of the time. Get two bars outside but signal strength is fragile, dropping calls if I take a deep breath. Pretty decent around the south bay in general, though. Just would be nice to be able to use my cell phone, you know, WHERE I LIVE.
I have had Cingular for 5+ yrs and have been pleased with the service, even though calls seem to drop at the most random places (101, 280, etc). After moving to a new housing development on Communications Hill, I have HORRIBLE coverage. I have called Cingular repeatedly to complain and the coverage is still JUNK!
I get very bad reception in the Archstone Willowglen apt. complex. The map shows good coverage, but for some reason neither my husband (who uses the Blade) nor I (LG) get signal here. Sometimes we roam, other times we don't. Other that that signal is o'k, but never in any unpopular areas. My friends with Verizon and Cingular usually have signal where I don't. I have a contract with Sprint and they won't let me out because I don't get signal at home. I'm very unhappy with them right now because of that.
In my apartment my phone varies from having 2 bars to 5 bars in certain areas, but what matters is not how many bars my phone shows, but how the voice quality is - and I've never had a single problem at my apartment with calls. Not a single dropped call, ever. I really don't understand why people like to complain about T-Mobile coverage, I haven't had many problems at all in San Jose. I guess I just get lucky.
With Cingular, generally the reception is great. Though some days it seems horrible. Even though they are all horrible, when I used T-Mobile they had the worst cell service and worst customer service.
I have a couple of 'hot spots' in my house where I can use my cell phone occasionally, but mostly it's useless. If I really need to make a call, I go to the Save Mart parking lot at McKee and Toyon where I get some reception. Kinda reminds me of what they said about communications in the old Soviet Union, except, thankfully, we don't need to keep the tub running for privacy. Hey, just because we pay $40- + / month, who says the service has to work?
I have had my Nextel phone for almost 6 months so far it only dropped 3 calls. Sometimes I get bad reception in my house which can be frustrating! I had Metro for 3 years had great reception the only thing was I had no service past Sacramento. As for local only Metro is the best for out of state Nextel
