Verizon is the Rolls Royce of service providers. I get great signal everywhere. I used to live in Los Osos, and it was perfect there too. Driving to Santa Barbara it is fine the whole way. I had a call drop today though, on 101 by Pismo. My contract us up and I'm changing providers because of the MONEY, so I think that very rare dropped call was a tender mercy.

I had AT&T when I moved here a year ago. They suck at the central coast. I switched to Verizon. They work great around here but they were expensive. A few months ago I switched to Straighttalk from Walmart. They are 45 bucks unlimited calls.texts and use Verizon towers. It rocks too.

On all my phones for the last 10 years I've had very good reception from AT&T / Cingluar. I take my phones to all the places people complain about, and I almost always get fine reception.

I haven't been dropped in SLO. (Oddly, my bedroom is the one place I have fewer reception bars.) Traveling north and south is fine too, except one spot between SLO and King City called San Ardo. It only drops for a second if you're on the 101. There's one spot by hills too that sometimes drops. I do that route a lot. Otherwise good. The best place to go if you have problems is the main office on Mill. They're still fake and sneaky and make you wait, but can do more for you there if they mess up. Keep all receipts of any changes you make to your plan.

Have had Verizon since I moved here and have rarely had any problems. Used to have AT&T and it was terrible! Was also able to test out the 4G in New York while I was there on vacation. There is simply no better service here in the San Luis Obispo Area. Everyone I spoke to who has different carriers have had many issues..

The reception here in San Luis Obispo, is good. However, if you head north or south on the 101 the reception starts to drop in and out.

In and around SLO coverage is usually ok, but terrible in the one place I need it most. I'm a Cal Poly student and coverage on-campus is spotty at best. There are very few places on campus that I can send or recieve calls. Coverage gets better when I go into town but it's still not great. Wouldnt recomend T-Mobile if you're going to be spending a lot of time in San Luis.

As others have said, ATT TDMA does not provides a reliable signal in this region. I left their service Nov. 2003. Signal strength typically read 1 bar except for every now and then when I would notice full strength for half an hour or so. I will never go back to ATT as their CSR's advice was to try to use my phone when it did read full strength rather than some promise to fix the problem or being told the problem was not repairable. I am confident their support knows nothing of what is going on and after complaining mutliple times along with the other ATT users in SLO I was told that no one else was reporting the problem.

I think AT&T will eventually improve when Cingular takes over. for now it is bad, and i have no reception in my house wihich incidentally is on a hill. both my wife and I have AT&T and we are having a hard time with this. the only reson she stays is becuase the phone number she does not want to lose. that's life.

AT&T switched cell towers in San Luis Obispo. With that switch, you must now must have a GSM phone to get any reception/service in SLO. AT&T is not offering any help or incentives to upgrade to GSM for those of us with phones that don't have GSM. Thanks for the lousy service AT&T.

Since AT&T switched cell towers around about 6 weeks ago and now phone says "home" or "at&t" instead of "roam", service has been extremely poor in all of san luis obispo & surrounding areas especially downtown and along highway 101. Have complained to at&t and they have blamed everything from the wildfires to my BRAND NEW cell phone.

I just bought a new phone in September. Reception was fine and I never had any problems. Then I went home for winter break and when I came back my phone says "No network" even though it has 5 bars. I know my phone antenna isn't damaged because I can still call the police if I need to. I don't understand what is going on but I really don't like T-Mobile.

Got phones in November, still having billing issues with Cingular, they have been overbilling me by hundreds of dollars each month and keep giving me the same old line: "the problem will be fixed by next month". I often do not get phone calls in Santa Maria, and if I am at home I have to go outside to make phone calls.

Absolutely no signal on Tonini but if you cross Los Osos Valley road the signal picks up again. I was told by the CSR to move if I wanted to get a signal at the apartments :-(
