posted earlier from my g1 on T-Mobile (starting with: Good 3G+(hspa) coverage downtown.) just switched to verizon, and i'm disappointed, I thought going to 4g and Verizon would improve signal, but I have no signal in more places now. mostly use phone when reading news on the bus from downtown to campus, and Verizon seems slightly worse than t-mo. 4g has 1 bar in most places downtown and on campus. maybe 3g is better, but this phone is struggling to stay on 4g. thinking about switching to AT&T next. understand that santa cruz is difficult due to many hills and big trees.

basically less than 1 bar. most of the time it says searching or I will miss calls and it does not ring. happens with most ATT phones in this location.

No reception. AT&T map clearly states solid reception at my address. No questionable coverage in surrounding areas indicated on map as well. I purchased a product and service based on this information and as many times as I've complained the map is still incorrect. Company is deliberately publishing and maintaining false information. Map is simply a marketing tool and should not be used for FACTS in your decision making process.

Good 3G+(hspa) coverage downtown. Campus has a few dead zones; on the bus line between porter and base of campus (oakes), in many buildings drops to Edge or no coverage, spotty in the forest. Haven't tried 4g and probably won't as I'm going to try Verizon soon. Two vzw stores in town, tmo store is in san jose.

1-3 bars on average, with the occasional "no service" message. 3g service is typically better inside than out - cycles between 3g, Edge, and "no service" in the yard, but stays consistently 3g in the house.

STINKS! Had good reception before Cingular went ATT. Been customer for 10 years, many types of phones all with same results and getting worse. At least 3 dropped calls a day, calls don't come thru, get messages an hour-or later. No service in house, very limited outside of house. Many streets in neighborhood also do not have service. Doesn't matter if on 3G, Edge, or whatever. Service map shows we have great coverage but colors on a map don't mean anything when it's real life application.

This is flagged as a "problematic" area for Sprint. Too bad they won't bend their rules on maximum lines for new customers and allow me to use one of their signal-boosting devices. I suppose I'm supposed to remain with them in a contract that will bring them $160 / month for service I can't use? Worst. Company. Ever.

On Campus in the last year or so reception has been nearly perfect everywhere on campus. I also get 3 or 4 bars most of the places over by Soquel hospital, though there are some places (like around El Chinos) where it goes to nil and I barely get by on edge. However, on campus, an iPhone on ATT / cincular is nearly ideal.

This phone has done well throughout Santa Cruz, even on campus for the most part. However, this year I've noticed a LOT more dropped calls and bad reception. My new house on the 1st floor struggles with any calls and I usually have to go outside. My roommate with AT&T and an iphone, however, seems to get great reception inside. My other roommate with Verizon gets good reception too.

Dropped calls inside. Only work near window. Ok outside. This is a dead zone for many carriers I guess. :(

This is ridiculous. I am in Downtown Santa Cruz and I have to leave my building to get even 2 bars of signal. T-Mobile has given me problems in Santa Cruz for as long as I've been here.

I thought I had a bad carrier until I read this site and saw everyone has the same sort of coverage I'm getting. Now I'm even more confused as to which carrier has an advantage here in Santa Cruz. T-Mobile drops maybe one in ten calls on average, sometimes on a roll. There is absolutely no reception within McHenry library, no reception in Hahn student services or Baytree bookstore area. Joe's Pizza is particularly a dead zone. However, luckily, there is great reception in my Oakes Milk apartment complex, although I remember poor hit-or-miss reception in my freshman dorms to the North. I also believe that the financial plan is such that texting is a little expensive so I'm afraid I've racked up a penny too much after getting caught up in conversations with other people who assume I have the same great flat-rate texting service they do.

I've lived all over Santa Cruz - currently on the East side, but I lived on campus, as well as on the West Side. Verizon has a couple dead spots on campus, but from my experience worked better or as well as all other carriers. Excellent reception in W Santa Cruz, Downtown, even by the beach (especially Natural Bridges which can be dodgey for other carriers). Doesn't work in Bonny Doon however. So if you don't head up into the forest that way, its otherwise excellent. Also service has gotten much better over the 17 - no longer drops calls (not that you should be on the phone while driving :P)

Seabright Neighborhood / Buena Vista Ave., Santa Cruz, CA 95062 Tue Feb 27, 2007

I get great reception in my neighborhood in Seabright and throughout the county. Even in remote areax (Mt. Hermon, specifically), my Cingular service is the only one with reception when comparing friends other services. I've been very happy with Cingular in Santa Cruz.
