I may get five bars, but that doesn't stop Cingular from dropping calls regularly. Sound also regularly drops out, only to return a moment later. Very frustrating.

verizon is great here in santa cruz california. do sometimes get a hang where the signal will go from 6 bars to 1 or none and then back which is what I am guessing is to be too many users using that paticular tower. Other than that works pretty good! I wish Verizon used sim chips like Cingular so I could just switch chips as my phone is almost due to be replaced(been dropped a few times and the data port is broken so I cant charge it in my car! If I replace my phone then I will loose all of my internet apps and some are not available anymore and Verizon will just give me a credit on Get It Now)

On Campus in the last year or so reception has been nearly perfect everywhere on campus. I also get 3 or 4 bars most of the places over by Soquel hospital, though there are some places (like around El Chinos) where it goes to nil and I barely get by on edge. However, on campus, an iPhone on ATT / cincular is nearly ideal.

Good coverage inside and out. Some spots in science bldgs are just dead (concrete and steel bldgs).

I've lived all over Santa Cruz - currently on the East side, but I lived on campus, as well as on the West Side. Verizon has a couple dead spots on campus, but from my experience worked better or as well as all other carriers. Excellent reception in W Santa Cruz, Downtown, even by the beach (especially Natural Bridges which can be dodgey for other carriers). Doesn't work in Bonny Doon however. So if you don't head up into the forest that way, its otherwise excellent. Also service has gotten much better over the 17 - no longer drops calls (not that you should be on the phone while driving :P)

I get great reception in my neighborhood in Seabright and throughout the county. Even in remote areax (Mt. Hermon, specifically), my Cingular service is the only one with reception when comparing friends other services. I've been very happy with Cingular in Santa Cruz.

Phone is a Sprint Tri-Mode (LG-225) but can't get any better than 3 bars thruout the county of Santa Cruz, CA. Upstairs at home, I get 3 bars, downstairs none. However, I'm able to place and receive calls downstairs with good voice quality. The other party hears me fine - no breakup nor static. Perhaps its the phone display that's faulty. And, if I move outside once again I get 3 bars and that's outside the window that said zero bars on the inside. Go figure. I had better recognition with Verizon but reception sucked in Los Angeles, South Bay.

I get excellent reception all around westside Santa Cruz and also up at the University. I have heard they have installed a new tower. I get good reception everywhere on Campus including Science Hill. Downtown locations and further east to Capitola, I have had very good reception quality. Tmo rocks

Unbelievable signal strength with Cingular since the merge with AT&T, not one dropped call so far!
